Questions and answers
What is TLC Help?
A service for NYC taxi, green cab and for-hire drivers with TLC summonses. We explain your summons in plain language, check the official OATH record, and connect you with an independent attorney or OATH-registered representative who can handle your case.
Is TLC Help a law firm?
No. TLC Help is not a law firm and is not affiliated with the TLC or OATH. Representation is provided by independent attorneys and registered representatives in our network.
How does the summons scan work?
Take a clear photo of your summons. Our AI reads the summons number, hearing date and charges, explains them in plain language, and checks the public OATH case record. A case manager reviews every case before it goes to a representative.
How much does it cost?
The service fee depends on the type of summons and is shown before you pay — see our pricing page. Fines are separate and are owed to TLC.
Do I pay the fine to TLC Help?
You can pay TLC directly and upload your receipt, or pay through your portal and we'll pay TLC for you before the deadline (a small handling fee applies).
Who decides TLC cases?
The NYC Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH), Hearings Division. TLC prosecutes the case.
How long do I have to pay a TLC fine?
Under TLC rule 80-02(c), fines are due within 30 days of a guilty finding. If unpaid, TLC notifies you that your license will be suspended 10 business days later until the fine is paid.
Can I reschedule my hearing?
OATH lets each side reschedule one time per summons, and your request must reach OATH before the scheduled hearing time. You can use OATH's online reschedule form or call OATH at (844) 628-4692.
What if I already missed my hearing?
You can ask OATH for a new hearing. A first request made within 75 days is granted. OATH's rule counts from the date the default decision was mailed or delivered, and its FAQ counts from the missed hearing date, so count from the hearing date to be safe. Act quickly.
Can you guarantee my summons will be dismissed?
No one can honestly guarantee an outcome. Your representative will review the evidence and tell you your realistic options.
Do you handle parking or camera tickets?
No. TLC Help handles TLC summonses heard at OATH. Parking and camera tickets are handled by the NYC Department of Finance, and traffic tickets by the DMV.
What languages do you support?
The site is in English today. Tell us your preferred language when you open a case, and we will try to match you with a representative who speaks it. OATH also provides free interpreters at hearings.
