191 Honda Civics held TLC licenses on October 12, 2026, all as for-hire vehicles (FHVs). The Civic is the 58th most common TLC model and the 11th most common sedan, far behind the Toyota Camry (17,301) and Honda's own Accord (2,470).
Only 14 Civics decode as hybrids. The reason is history: for most of the past decade, Honda did not sell a hybrid Civic, according to the EPA's listings. That changed for model year 2025.
Data source
TLC lists active FHVs and medallion taxis by VIN, without model names. TLC Help decoded the VINs using NHTSA's vPIC decoder. vPIC groups sedans and hatchbacks as "Civic" and supplies fuel type, which may be wrong for a few model years. This is a one-day snapshot.
Spread over many years
Most models on TLC plates bunch up in a few recent years. The Civic doesn't. Its biggest year, 2022, has just 26 cars (13.6%), and every year from 2016 to 2025 has between 8 and 26. The median model year is 2020.
That spread leaves the Civic older than the FHV fleet at both ends. 30 Civics (15.7%) are 2016 or older, compared with about 10% of all FHVs, and only 40 (20.9%) are 2024 or newer, compared with about 31%. TLC's current FHV rules have no fixed age limit, but an FHV must pass inspection three times a year (rule 59A-26(a), chapter 59). See TLC vehicle retirement age and TLC vehicle inspection.
The hybrid gap
The EPA's model listings show a separate Civic Hybrid for 2012 to 2015. We found no hybrid Civic listed for 2016 through 2024. From 2025, the Civic sedan (4Dr) has a hybrid version again. TLC has 13 Civics from 2012–2015 and 26 from 2025–2026, so at most 39 fall in hybrid years; 14 decode as hybrid.

The gas Civic is already efficient, so the hybrid's gain is mostly in the city: 50 vs 32 mpg on the EPA city test. Combined, that is about 20 gallons per 1,000 miles for the hybrid against 28 for the gas car. A 2012–2015 Civic Hybrid is now 11 or more model years old; its battery and records matter more than its original rating. Compare costs in the lease-vs-buy tool.
One more detail from the EPA data: the 2022 and newer Civic sedan is classed as a midsize car by interior volume, the same EPA size class as many larger-looking sedans. That says nothing about which app services accept it, so confirm with your app before buying.
Bases
190 Civics are at black car bases, the base type used for app trips, and 1 is at a livery base. None are yellow taxis, none are at luxury limousine bases, and none are marked wheelchair accessible in TLC's FHV list.
Plates
TLC issues new FHV licenses only for approved wheelchair accessible vehicles (TLC). A Civic can carry an existing license that is not WAV-restricted. The owner applies to transfer it within 15 days of DMV registration, and the transfer is approved only after inspection (rule 59A-09(a)). See TLC plates for FHVs.
The Toyota Corolla is its closest rival and much more often hybrid. Compare the Chevrolet Malibu, Cadillac XTS, Lexus ES and TLC fleet by make and model.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
TLC's vehicle lists have no make/model column, so TLC Help decoded the VIN of every licensed vehicle with NHTSA's vPIC decoder (one representative VIN per manufacturer + model-descriptor + model-year pattern) and published only counts. 5 of 115,081 vehicles (0%) could not be decoded to a model and are left out. vPIC sometimes reports trim-family names (e.g. 'RX' not 'RX 350h'); powertrain comes from vPIC's electrification/fuel fields and may misclassify a few model years. Snapshot lists change daily.

Frequently asked questions
How many Honda Civics are licensed by the TLC?
191 on October 12, 2026, all for-hire vehicles and none as yellow taxis. That is 0.17% of TLC vehicles and 58th place among models. TLC Help counted them from VINs decoded with NHTSA's vPIC decoder.
Why are so few TLC Civics hybrids?
Only 14 decode as hybrid (7.3%). The EPA lists a Civic Hybrid for model years 2012 to 2015 and a hybrid Civic sedan again from 2025. We found no hybrid Civic for 2016 to 2024, and those years hold most TLC Civics.
What mileage does the hybrid Civic get?
The EPA rates the 2026 Civic 4Dr hybrid at 49 mpg combined (50 city, 47 highway). The 2026 gas Civic 4Dr with the 2.0 L engine and CVT is rated 36 mpg combined.
Is the Honda Civic big enough for TLC work?
TLC Help does not state seat or size requirements here. The EPA classes the 2022 and newer Civic sedan as a midsize car by interior volume. Check the apps' own vehicle rules and TLC's rules before you buy.
