591 Nissan Rogues held TLC licenses on October 12, 2026, all as for-hire vehicles (FHVs). It ranks 27th among TLC models and is the third most common Nissan, after the NV200 and the Altima.
The Rogue fleet is older and more uneven than most compact SUVs. Its median model year is 2019 (2022 for the RAV4 and CR-V), and almost one in five Rogues (19.1%) is a 2016 or older model. Because so many are getting older, this page also covers what to do before you replace one.
How Rogues were identified
The FHV and taxi lists from TLC (8wbx-tsch, rhe8-mgbb) have VINs, not model names. We decoded every VIN with NHTSA's vPIC, which classes the Rogue as a "Crossover Utility Vehicle". vPIC may name a model family rather than a trim, so related versions can be grouped together.
Model years go up and down
The counts jump around: 92 for 2018, 91 for 2021, then only 7 for 2022, back to 62 for 2023, 10 for 2024 and 32 for 2025. The data shows the pattern, not the reason. What it does tell you is that a large group of Rogues is now eight or more model years old. For how long each can stay licensed, see TLC vehicle retirement age.
Powertrain, with a caveat
589 decode as gas and 2 as plug-in hybrid. None decode as hybrid, even though fueleconomy.gov lists a 2018 Rogue Hybrid (rated 34 mpg combined with FWD). vPIC's fuel fields can misclassify some model years, so read this chart as "almost all gas", not as an exact count. The regular 2018 Rogue FWD is rated 29 mpg combined (26 city, 33 highway) and the AWD 27.
Base types
577 (97.6%) are at black car bases and 14 at livery bases. None are luxury limousines, taxis or marked wheelchair accessible.
Replacing an older Rogue without losing your license
Your FHV license is worth more than an old car, so protect it when the Rogue reaches the end. These rules are in chapter 59:
- Don't hand in the plates first. Under 59A-06(d), a license ends early if the vehicle's state plates are voluntarily surrendered, and an early-terminated license cannot be renewed or reinstated. Talk to TLC or read the FHV license storage program guide before you return plates.
- Move the license to the new car. A vehicle transfer must be filed within 15 days of registering the new car with the DMV, and it is not approved until the car passes TLC inspection (59A-09(a)). See TLC plates for FHVs and TLC vehicle inspection.
- Watch the renewal date. The license term is two years (59A-06(b)). File at least 30 days before expiry; you can file up to 60 days late with a $25 fee, but the license is not valid in between, and after 60 days it cannot be renewed (59A-06(c)). Details: FHV vehicle license renewal.
- Tell TLC about new insurance. If the carrier or coverage changes, notify TLC in writing within seven days, not counting weekends and holidays (59A-12(b)). See FHV insurance requirements.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
TLC's vehicle lists have no make/model column, so TLC Help decoded the VIN of every licensed vehicle with NHTSA's vPIC decoder (one representative VIN per manufacturer + model-descriptor + model-year pattern) and published only counts. 5 of 115,081 vehicles (0%) could not be decoded to a model and are left out. vPIC sometimes reports trim-family names (e.g. 'RX' not 'RX 350h'); powertrain comes from vPIC's electrification/fuel fields and may misclassify a few model years. Snapshot lists change daily.

Frequently asked questions
How many Nissan Rogues are licensed by the TLC?
591 on October 12, 2026, all for-hire vehicles and 0.51% of all TLC vehicles. TLC Help counted them by decoding each VIN with NHTSA's vPIC decoder.
Are there hybrid Rogues on TLC plates?
None decode as hybrid; 589 decode as gas and 2 as plug-in hybrid. EPA's fueleconomy.gov does list a 2018 Rogue Hybrid, so a few hybrids could be classed as gas by vPIC. Check your own car's title or window sticker.
What happens to my FHV license if I surrender my plates when I get rid of my Rogue?
Rule 59A-06(d) says an FHV license ends early if the vehicle's state plates are voluntarily surrendered, and an early-terminated license cannot be renewed or reinstated. Plan a vehicle transfer or TLC's storage program first.
How often must I renew the FHV license on my Rogue?
Every two years. File at least 30 days before it expires. A late application is allowed up to 60 days after expiry with a $25 fee, and the license is not valid until renewed.
