In short: The Bayonne Bridge connects Staten Island's north shore with Bayonne, New Jersey. A car pays $14.79 off-peak or $16.79 at peak with a New York or New Jersey E-ZPass, and only toward Staten Island (rates as of October 12, 2026). If you drive a plug-in electric or plug-in hybrid, the Port Authority's Green Pass plan lowers the off-peak toll to $11.29, but it is written for private accounts, so check before enrolling a TLC car. On a TLC trip to New Jersey, the passenger pays your toll back.
Bayonne Bridge rates (Class 1 car)
- Direction: "Tolls are collected entering New York. No tolls are collected entering New Jersey" (Port Authority).
- Peak: weekdays 6–10 a.m. and 4–8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Off-peak is all other times.
- E-ZPass price: only for New York and New Jersey E-ZPass accounts. The MTA tag required in TLC vehicles is a New York tag.
- Mid-Tier ($19.55): charged since July 6, 2025 to NY/NJ accounts whose tag is not properly mounted and read.
- Tolls by Mail ($23.30): when the plate is not on an E-ZPass account in good standing.
Peak or off-peak? Look at the clock when you cross back. With a New York tag:
| You cross into Staten Island | Price |
|---|---|
| Tuesday 9:30 a.m. | $16.79 (peak) |
| Tuesday 10:30 a.m. | $14.79 (off-peak) |
| Saturday 10:00 a.m. | $14.79 (off-peak) |
| Saturday 12:00 noon | $16.79 (peak) |
| Sunday 10:00 p.m. | $14.79 (off-peak) |
Weekend peak starts later (11 a.m.) and ends later (9 p.m.) than weekday peak.
The Green Pass plan for plug-in vehicles
The Bayonne is one of six Port Authority crossings where the Green Pass Discount Plan works. The rules, from the Port Authority E-ZPass page:
Vehicles enrolled before February 1, 2022 were grandfathered. The saving is $3.50 per off-peak crossing, nothing at peak. If you cross off-peak five times a week, that is $17.50 a week.

The Staten Island Bridges Plan here
The Bayonne is also one of the three bridges in the Port Authority's Staten Island Bridges Plan (PASI): $8.40 per Staten Island-bound trip with at least three such trips in a calendar month, for Class 1, 7 and 11 vehicles with non-commercial plates and private NY or NJ accounts. Trips "otherwise discounted by the Green Pass Plan" don't count toward the three-trip minimum, so you can't stack the two plans on the same trip. Full plan table: Goethals Bridge. Who pays on TLC trips
A Staten Island trip that ends in Bayonne or elsewhere in New Jersey is a trip beyond the city:
- Yellow taxi or green cab: agree a flat rate before you start; "double the meter" is not a flat rate (§80-17(f)(1), fine $100). The passenger also pays "all necessary tolls to and from the destination" (§58-26(f)(2)), which here is your Bayonne toll back: $14.79 or $16.79.
- Livery, black car, other FHV: same toll rule (§59A-23(b)(2)).
- Uber or Lyft: the company must repay tolls paid during the dispatched trip (§59D-17(c)). The Bayonne toll is paid after the drop-off, on your way back, so check how your app handles it.
Charge the passenger the actual E-ZPass price for the time you will cross back, never the $23.30 mail rate. If you used a Green Pass tag, the actual price may be $11.29.
If the trip started in Brooklyn
A Brooklyn passenger going to Bayonne also crosses the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge ($7.46 with a New York E-ZPass, MTA rates from January 4, 2026). The passenger pays it on the way, plus the Bayonne toll for your return (§58-26(f)(2): "all necessary tolls to and from the destination"). The Bayonne toll already brings you back into the city on Staten Island, so TLC rules do not clearly make the passenger pay your Verrazzano crossing back to Brooklyn. If you want to include it, agree it in the flat fare before the trip. Inside the city the Verrazzano has its own direction rule: Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the Bayonne Bridge toll?
For a car with a New York or New Jersey E-ZPass: $14.79 off-peak and $16.79 at peak. Mid-Tier is $19.55 and Tolls by Mail $23.30. It is charged only when you enter Staten Island.
Is there an electric car discount on the Bayonne Bridge?
Yes, the Port Authority's Green Pass Discount Plan: $11.29 off-peak for an eligible Class 1 vehicle (peak stays $16.79). Since February 1, 2022 only plug-in electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles can join. It needs a private E-ZPass New York account and enrollment.
Can my electric TLC car use the Green Pass plan?
The plan is for private E-ZPass New York accounts, and the Port Authority does not say how it treats TLC vehicles. Ask E-ZPass New York (1-800-333-8655) before you apply, and keep the answer in writing.
Can I combine Green Pass and the Staten Island Bridges Plan?
No double discount. The Staten Island plan's three-trip minimum counts only Staten Island-bound trips 'not otherwise discounted by the Green Pass Plan.'
Who pays the Bayonne Bridge toll on a TLC trip to New Jersey?
The passenger. TLC rules make the passenger pay all necessary tolls to and from a destination outside the city, which includes your toll back into Staten Island.
