'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Why green cabs matter here

Green cabs (street hail liveries) may not take hails in Manhattan south of East 96th and West 110th Streets (Chapter 51). By our check of TLC's zone map against the city's East 96th Street centerline, all of East Harlem North is north of that line, so hails are legal here. Green cabs had 6.6% of pickups in this zone, against well under 1% in most of Manhattan.

The flow is one-way. Green cabs picked up 137,458 riders here but dropped off only 24,116. Green trips are short (median 2.02 miles, $14.20 on the meter), only 1.9% were charged the Congestion Relief Zone fee, and card-paying green riders tipped 22.3%. See the green cab permit guide and green cab pickups by zone.

When rides start and end

On weekdays pickups peak at 8 a.m. (about 395) and 7 a.m. (about 359). Saturdays are the busiest days (about 6,518 pickups) and peak at 6 p.m.; Sundays peak in the late afternoon. On weekdays, drop-offs peak at 5 p.m.
