Lenox Hill East (TLC zone 140) is a weekday zone where more trips end than start. In TLC trip records for September 2025 to August 2026, 2,265,758 trips started here (about 6,208 a day) and 2,351,969 ended here. Arrivals peak very early, at 7 a.m. on weekdays, and pickups peak in the mid-afternoon, from 3 to 5 p.m. Yellow taxis had 39.8% of pickups, Uber and Lyft most of the rest.
Lenox Hill East at a glance
Zone 140 is the eastern part of the Lenox Hill area. It runs from about 59th Street to the high 70s, between Lenox Hill West and the East River. TLC's map lists four neighbours: Lenox Hill West (141), Sutton Place/Turtle Bay North (229), Yorkville East (262) and Yorkville West (263). TLC's lookup table puts it in the "Yellow Zone" group, a category used to sort trip data.
When rides start and end here
This zone runs on a weekday clock. An average weekday has about 6,775 pickups, a Saturday about 5,359 and a Sunday about 4,207.
The arrival pattern is the most unusual part. Weekday drop-offs peak at 7 a.m. (about 550), then 8 a.m. (540) and 6 a.m. (483). That is earlier than in Midtown Center or Midtown East, where weekday arrivals peak at 8 a.m. Weekday pickups peak at 5 p.m. (about 484), with 4 p.m. and 3 p.m. close behind. So people arrive early and leave from mid-afternoon on. On Saturdays pickups peak at 7 p.m., and on Sundays around noon.
Steady through the year
Pickups barely changed with the seasons. The busiest months were December 2025 (203,318) and March 2026 (203,245). The quietest was August 2026 (174,326), only about 14% lower. In Upper East Side South, two zones to the west, the drop was more than twice as large.
Where trips go
Most trips stay on the East Side: Upper East Side North (5.5% of pickups), Upper East Side South (5.2%), Midtown East (4.1%) and Yorkville West (4.0%). Trips ending outside New York City (TLC zone 265) are 2.9%. Only 5.8% of app pickups go to an airport, one of the lower shares in Manhattan's "Yellow Zone" group.
Fares and pay
App trips from here are fairly long for the Upper East Side: median 3.69 miles and 19.9 minutes. The median app driver pay is $19.81 per trip (before tips and tolls), higher than in the neighbouring Lenox Hill West ($17.76) or Upper East Side South ($17.90). Yellow trips are a median 1.8 miles and $14.20 on the meter, with a 22.4% card tip rate.
Green cabs had 545 pickups here, more than in most nearby zones, but that is still only about 1.5 a day. Their figures look odd: a $3 median fare on a median 8.93-mile trip. A few hundred records like these are not enough to read a pattern from, so treat that column with care.
Bridge ramps and legal lines
- Queensboro Bridge: city street-centerline data places most of the bridge's Manhattan roadway, and part of East 62nd Street, in zone 140. The MTA FAQ says trips from Queens to the Upper East Side on the Upper Level are not charged the congestion toll, because the ramp exits onto 62nd Street. Trips between the FDR Drive and the bridge are charged. More: free East River bridges.
- MTA Congestion Relief Zone: it covers Manhattan south of and including 60th Street. About 96% of zone 140 is north of 60th Street, so only its southern edge is inside. As of 2026-10-12 the per-trip charge is $1.50 per app trip and $0.75 per taxi trip, for trips to, from, within or through the zone. Here, 53.7% of app pickups and 46.8% of yellow pickups were charged.
- NYS congestion surcharge: the zone is south of 96th Street. As of 2026-10-12: $2.50 per medallion taxi trip, $2.75 per FHV trip, when the trip begins and ends in New York State.
- Hail Exclusionary Zone: the zone is below East 96th Street (Chapter 51). Green cabs may not take hails here, and FHV drivers may only take pre-arranged trips (80-19(c)(2)). The 545 green pickups in the data are discussed above.
Taxi stands on York Avenue
Current DOT sign records (nfid-uabd, updated October 11, 2026) show taxi-stand signs on two blocks of York Avenue, both posted for weekday mornings only. DOT's relief-stand dataset lists no relief stand in zone 140.
Both York Avenue stands are posted for weekday mornings, 7–10 a.m. At these stands Uber and Lyft drivers may not pick up (80-19(d)(2)), and taxis line up from the back (80-19(d)(4)). See taxi stand rules.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
