'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. When rides start: two weekday peaks and a big Saturday

On weekdays the zone has two peaks of almost equal size: 8 a.m. (about 474 pickups) and 6 p.m. (about 490). The 7–9 a.m. hours average about 1,272 pickups and the 4–6 p.m. hours about 1,280. That balance is less common in Midtown, where evenings dominate.

Saturday is different. It has the most pickups of any day, peaking at 7 p.m. (about 583), with 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. close behind. Saturday drop-offs peak even later, at 10–11 p.m. Sunday pickups peak at 12–1 p.m., but Sunday nights are lively too: about 13.7% of Sunday pickups happen between midnight and 5 a.m. (the Saturday-night tail).

Fares and pay

Yellow trips here are short and cheap: median 1.41 miles, 10.8 minutes and $12.10 on the meter, with a 23.9% card tip rate. App trips are about twice as long (median 2.92 miles) and cost $22.97 before fees. The median app driver pay is $17.76 per trip, with an average tip of $1.71. TLC's app pay figure does not include tips or tolls. "Pay per engaged hour" in the table counts only time with a rider, so it is higher than real hourly earnings.

Bridge ramps, the 60th Street line and hail rules

  • Queensboro Bridge: the city's street centerline data places the bridge's Manhattan ramps and exits in zones 141 and 140. On congestion pricing, the MTA FAQ says trips from Queens to the Upper East Side on the Upper Level are not tolled, "because that ramp exits onto 62 Street". Trips between the FDR Drive and the bridge are tolled. For which East River crossings are free, see free East River bridges.
  • MTA Congestion Relief Zone: the MTA zone ends at 60th Street (Manhattan south of and including 60th Street. By our check, about 95% of zone 141 is north of 60th Street, so the zone is only partly inside. As of 2026-10-12 the per-trip charge is $1.50 on app trips and $0.75 on taxi trips, for trips to, from, within or through the zone. 58.4% of app pickups and 50.7% of yellow pickups here were charged.
  • NYS congestion surcharge: the zone is entirely south of 96th Street. As of 2026-10-12 the surcharge is $2.50 per medallion taxi trip and $2.75 per FHV trip, for trips that begin and end in New York State.
  • Hail Exclusionary Zone: Lenox Hill West is in Manhattan below East 96th Street (Chapter 51), so green cabs may not take hails; 218 green pickups were recorded in a year. FHV drivers who pick up without a pre-arranged trip face the enhanced penalties in 80-19(c)(2).

Relief stand

DOT's relief-stand dataset (updated October 1, 2026) lists one stand in the zone, for taxis only. Current DOT sign records show no taxi stand in zone 141.

A relief stand is not a taxi stand. You may leave the car there for up to one hour, but you must follow the posted vehicle types and time limits (80-19(d)(7)). Can app drivers use them? See relief stands for Uber and Lyft drivers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the busiest day in Lenox Hill West?

Saturday. An average Saturday has about 7,838 pickups here, against about 6,913 on an average weekday and 6,127 on a Sunday. The busiest hour of the week is Saturday at 7 p.m.

Is there a relief stand in zone 141?

DOT lists one: a taxi-only relief stand with 2 spaces on East 77th Street between First and Second Avenues (south side). Relief stands let you park and leave the car for up to one hour. Check the posted sign, because DOT says its map may not show every current rule.

Does a trip from Queens over the Queensboro Bridge to this area pay congestion pricing?

Not if it never enters the zone below 60th Street. The MTA says trips from Queens to the Upper East Side on the bridge's Upper Level are not tolled, because that ramp exits onto 62nd Street. A trip that continues south of 60th Street is a zone trip.

Can green cabs pick up street hails in Lenox Hill West?

No. The zone is in Manhattan south of East 96th Street, which TLC defines as part of the Hail Exclusionary Zone. Only 218 green cab pickups were recorded here in 12 months.
