Bay Ridge (TLC zone 14) is one of the busier zones in southwest Brooklyn, and one of the few here with a signed taxi stand. In the 12 months to August 2026, 1,463,358 trips started here, about 4,009 a day, and Saturday was the busiest day of the week. More than a quarter of trips (28.7%) stay inside Bay Ridge, and app riders tip better than in most of the borough.
All trip numbers come from TLC trip records (yellow, green and high-volume app trips, September 2025 to August 2026), added up by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips that are not high-volume are not part of them.
Bay Ridge at a glance
Zone 14 is a Brooklyn "Boro Zone" in TLC's zone lookup, which is a data label, not a legal line. On TLC's zone map it borders four zones: Bath Beach, Dyker Heights, Sunset Park East and Sunset Park West.
It ranks 19th of 61 Brooklyn zones by pickups and 17th by drop-offs. Drop-offs (1,533,545) beat pickups by about 70,000. Yellow taxis show the gap most: 44,276 yellow drop-offs against 18,033 yellow pickups.
When rides start
Weekdays average about 4,001 pickups with two clear peaks: 8 a.m. (about 312) and 7 a.m. (about 275) in the morning, then 5–6 p.m. (about 236–240).
Saturday is bigger, at about 4,519 pickups. It builds through the afternoon and stays high from 5 to 8 p.m. (about 258–279 an hour). Sunday is the quietest day, about 3,539 pickups, peaking at 6 p.m.
Late weekend arrivals are strong. On Sunday the busiest drop-off hour is the midnight hour (about 234), the end of Saturday night.
Month by month
December 2025 was the top month (135,998 pickups), and January to March 2026 stayed near 128,000–131,000. September 2025 was the low (105,902). Summer 2026 eased to about 112,600–123,200.
Yellow pickups were about 1,480 to 2,210 a month until May 2026, then about 600–650 a month from June to August. App pickups did not show the same drop, and the trip records do not say why.

Fares, trip length and driver pay
The median app trip is 2.55 miles and 12.8 minutes, with a $15.22 fare and $12.51 driver pay before tips and tolls (40th in Brooklyn). Because trips are quick, pay per engaged hour is $63.52, 7th in Brooklyn. That figure counts only time with a rider aboard, so it is higher than real hourly earnings. Tips average $1.23.
Yellow trips are long: a median 7.6 miles, 31.2 minutes and $32.82. 12.5% of yellow pickups were charged the Manhattan toll-zone fee, against 6.6% of app pickups.
The 86th Street taxi stand and pickup rules
DOT's sign data shows TAXI STAND signs on the south side of 86th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues (nfid-uabd, checked October 12, 2026). DOT lists no relief stand in the zone (vqu8-xef9). What TLC Chapter 80 says about a taxi stand:
- A yellow taxi may take any open spot. A green cab may too, because the stand is in the Hail Zone (80-19(d)(1)).
- Join at the back of the line and don't overcrowd the stand (80-19(d)(4)).
- Taxi drivers must not cruise for hails within 100 feet of the stand (80-19(a)(4)(ii)).
- App and other for-hire drivers must not pick up at a taxi stand. The fine starts at $350 (80-19(d)(2)).
Away from the stand, yellow and green cabs may take street hails anywhere in Bay Ridge, and app drivers need a base dispatch for every pickup. Riders going into Manhattan at or below 60th Street pay $1.50 per app trip or $0.75 per taxi trip as of 2026-10-12 (MTA). See who can pick up where. This is general information, not legal advice.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
