Sunset Park West (TLC zone 228) is a busy zone with two distinct sides: a weekday morning when riders arrive, and weekend nights that run until 4 a.m. From September 2025 to August 2026, 1,363,439 trips started here (about 3,735 a day), 20th of 61 Brooklyn zones, and 1,427,690 ended here. Trips mostly run along south and west Brooklyn, to Bay Ridge, Sunset Park East and Park Slope.
The data is TLC trip records for yellow, green and high-volume app (Uber, Lyft) trips, aggregated by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips that aren't app-dispatched are not counted.
Sunset Park West at a glance
Zone 228 is labelled "Boro Zone" in TLC's lookup table, a data category with no legal effect. It is a long zone with eight neighbors on TLC's map: Bay Ridge, Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, Green-Wood Cemetery, Park Slope, Red Hook, Sunset Park East and Windsor Terrace.
Apps did 98.4% of pickups. The yellow share (1.6%) is below the Brooklyn zone median of 2.0%. Yellow cabs bring in far more riders than they take out: 40,447 drop-offs against 22,143 pickups.
When rides start (and end)

On Saturdays, pickups peak at about 281 in the 10 p.m. hour and are still about 148 to 161 an hour from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. Saturday night into Sunday is stronger still: about 243 pickups in the midnight hour, and still 171 at 4 a.m. Then pickups drop sharply at 5 a.m. Neighboring Park Slope is almost twice as busy overall, yet it has fewer pickups at 3 a.m. on Sundays (about 121 against 182 here).

Pickup rules here
Zone 228 is in TLC's Hail Zone, so yellow and green cabs may take street hails. App drivers may only pick up base-dispatched riders (80-19(c)(1)). Taking a street hail in an FHV can lead to fines, a suspension and, for a third violation in 36 months, revocation (Chapter 80). See who can pick up where. This is general information, not legal advice.
Stands and curb signs: DOT's open data lists no relief stand and no taxi stand in zone 228 (checked October 12, 2026). The current sign data does show an "FHV (SYMBOL) FOR-HIRE VEHICLES ONLY PICK-UP / DROP-OFF ONLY" sign on the east side of 4th Avenue between 36th and 37th Streets, with an order completed on October 6, 2026 (nfid-uabd). The sign reads for-hire vehicles only, so it is not a taxi stand. A pickup there still has to be dispatched by your base. Follow the sign on the pole, which is what counts.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
