College Point (TLC zone 53) is a morning zone. About 1,142 rides a day start here, and the single busiest hour of the week is 8 a.m. on a weekday, busier than any Saturday night. App trips from College Point are longer than most in Queens, so median driver pay ($17.30) is 6th-highest of the 67 Queens zones outside the airports. Flushing is the top destination, with about one trip in six.

These figures come from TLC trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and high-volume app trips (Uber and Lyft) from September 2025 to August 2026, added up by TLC Help. Non-app black car and livery trips are not included.

Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Medians/rates need ≥250 trips (else null). labels are LocationIDs as strings; zones[] has names, boroughs, service_zone (from taxi_zone_lookup.csv), suggested slugs and neighbouring zone ids (shared boundary, from taxi_zones.zip).

Where trips go

Flushing takes 16.2% of pickups, then trips inside College Point (9.9%) and Whitestone (8.2%). After that come zones to the west: Jackson Heights 3.7%, Elmhurst 3.4% and North Corona 3.0%. LaGuardia gets 2.9% and 2.4% leave the city.

Trips coming in mirror this almost exactly: Flushing is the top origin (15.4% of drop-offs), then College Point itself and Whitestone. One difference is yellow taxis. They dropped off 10,075 riders here but picked up only 3,596, about one pickup for every three drop-offs. Most taxis that bring a rider here do not get their next fare inside the zone.

Fares, pay and tips

The median app trip is 4.39 miles in 16.5 minutes, with a $20.06 fare (7th in Queens) and $17.30 driver pay. Trips take a long time for Queens (16.5 minutes, 7th-longest), and pay per engaged hour is $64.67 (23rd). Engaged hours leave out waiting and driving to pickups, so they are not hourly earnings.

App riders here tip little: 2.6% of the fare, an average of $0.63 a trip, below the Queens middle of 3.3%. Card-paying yellow taxi riders tipped 7.6%, but yellow cabs made only 3,596 pickups all year.
