Yellow cabs had 31% of pickups; the rest were almost all Uber and Lyft.
Flatiron at a glance
Zone 90 is a small zone on TLC's map, roughly from 14th to 26th Streets. It touches five zones: East Chelsea (68), Penn Station/Madison Sq West (186), Union Sq (234), Greenwich Village North (113) and West Village (249). Flatiron's service_zone in TLC's lookup is "Yellow Zone" (a data field, not a rule).
When rides start and end: evenings and weekend nights
On weekdays this is not a morning zone. Weekday drop-offs peak at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., and pickups peak at 6 p.m. (about 405), 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Arrivals follow an evening pattern, not a morning-commute one.
Weekends are the core. Saturday pickups are high all evening, with peaks at 7 p.m. (about 506) and 11 p.m. (about 495). Saturday drop-offs peak at 11 p.m. On Sundays, the top pickup hours are midnight (about 496), 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., and Sunday drop-offs also peak at midnight. About 27.6% of Sunday pickups and 20.8% of Saturday pickups happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
Month by month
October 2025 was the busiest month (200,278 pickups) and August 2026 the quietest (171,123). The range is narrow; every month from September 2025 to July 2026 had between about 173,000 and 200,000 pickups.
Where trips go: next door
The top destinations are West Chelsea/Hudson Yards (5.1% of pickups) and East Chelsea (4.4%), then outside New York City (TLC zone 265, 4.1%), the West Village (3.9%) and the East Village (3.2%). Trips into the zone come from the same places: West Chelsea/Hudson Yards (4.7% of drop-offs), the West Village (4.4%) and East Chelsea (4.1%). Airports take 9.7% of app pickups and 1.4% of yellow pickups.
Fares and pay
App trips from here are short: a median 2.23 miles and 17.9 minutes, with a $24.44 fare. The median app driver pay is $17.37 per trip (before tips and tolls), with a $1.85 average tip. Yellow trips are a median 1.5 miles, 12.3 minutes and $13.50 on the meter, with a 23.9% card tip rate.
Congestion fee and hail lines
- MTA Congestion Relief Zone: the zone is fully south of 60th Street, inside the Congestion Relief Zone. As of 2026-10-12, trips to, from, within or through it pay $1.50 (app) or $0.75 (taxi) per trip, collected from the rider. 99.5% of app pickups and 98.4% of yellow pickups were charged. Overnight trips pay the same per-trip amount; only the daily toll on private cars changes by time (rate card).
- NYS congestion surcharge: $2.50 per medallion taxi trip and $2.75 per FHV trip as of 2026-10-12, on Flatiron trips that start and end in New York State (tax department).
- Hail Exclusionary Zone: Flatiron is inside it for green cabs (132 green pickups in a year, Chapter 51). FHV drivers who accept a street hail during the late weekend rush risk 80-19(c)(2) penalties of $500 and up.
Relief stands and taxi stands
DOT's relief-stand dataset (updated October 1, 2026) lists two relief stands with 14 spaces, on West 21st and West 22nd Streets. Current DOT sign records (October 11, 2026) show a taxi-stand sign on one segment inside the zone: the west side of Seventh Avenue between 22nd and 23rd Streets. Across Sixth Avenue, on its east side, there are two more stand signs (18th–19th and 21st–22nd Streets). That side of the avenue is in TLC's Union Sq zone. The 21st–22nd Street stand is posted Friday–Sunday, midnight–5 a.m. only.
The two relief stands differ: West 21st Street is taxi-only, while West 22nd Street admits FHVs but only on weekdays, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Either way you may stay one hour at most (DOT; 80-19(d)(7)). At any taxi stand, taxis join at the back (80-19(d)(4)) and FHVs may not load (80-19(d)(2)).

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
