Brooklyn Heights, TLC taxi zone 33, is where Brooklyn app trips pay the most per ride. The median app fare here was $24.65, the highest of Brooklyn's 61 zones, and median driver pay was $19.23, second only to one other zone. From September 2025 to August 2026 the zone counted 1,253,790 pickups, around 3,435 a day. Trips are long for Brooklyn, and a high share go to the airports or to Manhattan.
Brooklyn Heights at a glance (zone 33)
Zone 33 is a Brooklyn "Boro Zone" in TLC's lookup table. The label groups zones in the data and is not a legal boundary. On the TLC map, its neighbours are Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Columbia Street, Downtown Brooklyn/MetroTech and DUMBO/Vinegar Hill.
When rides start here
This is an early-evening zone, not a late-night one. Weekday pickups peak at 6 p.m. (about 237), and 15.0% of them start between 7 and 10 a.m. Saturdays bring the most pickups (about 4,300), again topping out at 6 p.m. (about 307). Sunday's top hour is noon. After midnight the zone empties: only 4.0% of weekday pickups start between midnight and 5 a.m.
Arrivals come later than departures. Weekday drop-offs peak at 9 p.m. and Saturday drop-offs at 10 p.m., three to four hours after the pickup peak. So a driver who brings a rider here in the late evening is arriving after the zone's busiest pickup time.
Monthly pickups ran from a February 2026 low of 92,558 to a May 2026 high of 114,794.
Where trips go
No single neighbourhood dominates. The top destinations are trips inside the zone (4.2%), Park Slope (3.9%), Boerum Hill (3.8%) and DUMBO/Vinegar Hill (3.4%). LaGuardia (3.1%) and JFK (2.5%) both make the top ten. Among arrivals, TriBeCa/Civic Center in Manhattan sends 2.4% of drop-offs. The median app trip runs 3.78 miles, 3rd-longest in Brooklyn.
Yellow, green and app: who serves the zone
App trips account for 1,188,679 pickups, yellow taxis for 60,210 and green cabs for 4,901 (4th-most in Brooklyn). The yellow share, 4.8%, is 2nd-highest in the borough. Yellow taxis also drop off about twice as many riders here (123,933) as they pick up. Of the yellow pickups, 43.0% paid the Congestion Relief Zone charge.
Fares and driver pay
Besides the $24.65 median fare and $19.23 median pay, app riders here tipped $1.87 on average, about 5.9% of the fare. App pay per engaged hour was $64.14, 4th in Brooklyn, but that counts only time with a passenger. A typical yellow trip ran 4.73 miles and a $27.50 fare.
The Court Street relief sign, and pickup rules
A DOT parking-sign record (checked 2026-10-12) shows a current taxi/FHV relief stand sign in this zone. DOT's own relief-stand list (vqu8-xef9) does not include it. DOT says its map "may not be reflective of all current posted regulations" (NYC DOT), so the street sign is what counts.
At a relief stand you may take any open spot, but you must follow its posted vehicle types and time limit (rule 80-19(d)(7), Chapter 80). Brooklyn Heights is in TLC's Hail Zone, so yellow and green cabs can take hails; app drivers need a booking through their base (80-19(c)(1)). More: relief stands in NYC.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
