Financial District North (TLC zone 87) is the busiest of the Financial District zones: 1,803,936 pickups in the 12 months to August 2026, about 4,942 a day. Its trip data has two clear features. LaGuardia is the second most common destination, and riders arrive in the evening more than in the morning: weekday drop-offs peak at 9 p.m. Long trips mean the median app driver pay was $22.26 per trip.
Zone 87 at a glance
The TLC lookup table labels zone 87 a "Yellow Zone". This is only a data label, not a legal boundary. The zone has three neighbours: Financial District South, World Trade Center and Seaport.
When rides start and end here
Weekday pickups have two peaks of almost the same size: 6 p.m. (336) and 9 p.m. (334). Drop-offs are different from an office pattern: the top weekday drop-off hours are 9 p.m. (368) and 10 p.m. (363), and only 13.8% of weekday drop-offs arrive between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Saturday is the busiest day, with about 6,500 pickups (40% more than a weekday). It peaks at 8 p.m. and stays high until 10 p.m. On Sunday the top hour is midnight (401), and 23.6% of Sunday pickups happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
The busiest month was October 2025 (168,224 pickups); the quietest was February 2026 (128,022), 24% lower.
Where trips from here go
"Outside NYC" leads (5.0% of pickups), then LaGuardia Airport (4.3%) and TriBeCa/Civic Center (4.3%). East Village (3.5%) and Lower East Side (3.4%) follow, then JFK (3.0%) and Newark (2.5%). The three airports together take almost 10% of pickups. On the way in, LaGuardia is the second-largest source of arriving riders (4.6% of drop-offs), after TriBeCa/Civic Center (5.1%).
Fares and driver pay
Median app trip: 4.75 miles, 21.2 minutes, $29.86 fare and $22.26 driver pay, with $2.06 average tips. Median yellow trip: 3.91 miles and $22.42 on the meter, with 20.3% card tips. Yellow cabs did 18.3% of pickups, well under the Manhattan Yellow Zone middle of 31.6%. Remember that app pay here excludes tolls, which matter on airport runs.
Legal lines
All of zone 87 is south of Canal Street, inside NYC DOT's 20 mph Lower Manhattan Regional Slow Zone. It is also inside the MTA Congestion Relief Zone: 99.4% of app pickups and 96.6% of yellow pickups carried the fee, which costs the rider $1.50 (app) or $0.75 (taxi) as of 2026-10-12. Like the rest of Manhattan south of East 96th and West 110th Streets, it is in the Hail Exclusionary Zone, so green cabs (176 pickups, 837 drop-offs) can only drop off.
Stands and practical notes
The Maiden Lane block has both a relief stand (park up to one hour, taxis and FHVs) and a taxi-stand sign. They have different rules. At a taxi stand the first two drivers must stay in their seats (TLC Rule 80-19(d)(6)) and app drivers may not pick up (80-19(d)(2)). At a relief stand you may leave the car, within the posted limit (80-19(d)(7)). Read which part of the curb each sign covers. See taxi stand rules and can I leave my cab at a taxi stand?

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
