Elmhurst/Maspeth (TLC zone 83) is a short-trip zone. About 1,825 trips a day start here (666,156 in 12 months to August 2026), but the median app trip is only 2.34 miles, so median driver pay is $11.91, near the bottom of Queens. Green cabs are more active here than in most of the borough, and many of their trips go to the airport. Elmhurst is the top destination (16.3%).
The data is from TLC trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and app trips (Uber, Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, totaled by TLC Help.
Elmhurst/Maspeth at a glance
Zone 83 touches four zones on TLC's map: Elmhurst (82), Jackson Heights (129), Maspeth (157) and Woodside (260). It should not be confused with the separate Maspeth zone (157) or Elmhurst zone (82). TLC's "Boro Zone" label for it is only a data category.
When rides start and end
Weekday pickups peak early: 8 a.m. (about 133) and 7 a.m. (about 121). On weekends the morning is still strong: Saturday peaks at 10 a.m. (about 116) and Sunday at 11 a.m. (about 113).
Drop-offs come later. They peak at 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on Saturdays (about 163). On Sundays, 24.4% of drop-offs happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
Pickups ranged from 49,251 in September 2025 to 61,461 in December 2025. Green cab pickups stayed steady at about 300 to 490 a month all year.
Where trips go
Elmhurst takes 16.3% of pickups and Woodside 9.9%. Jackson Heights (6.8%), trips inside the zone (5.6%) and Sunnyside (5.1%) follow. LaGuardia (2.3%) is the only airport in the top ten. The trips arriving here come from the same short list, led by Elmhurst (14.7%) and Woodside (9.6%).
Three sectors, three kinds of trip
The sectors do different jobs here:
- App trips are short: a median of 2.34 miles in 12.5 minutes, a $14.32 fare and $11.91 driver pay. Pay per engaged hour is $60.12 (58th in Queens); it counts passenger time only, so real hourly earnings are lower. Riders tip 2.8% of the fare. 7.0% of app pickups paid the Manhattan congestion fee, 12th-highest in Queens.
- Green cabs (4,985 pickups) run a median 2.44 miles, but 16.9% go to an airport, and their card riders tipped 20.4% of the fare.
- Yellow taxis (10,120 pickups) go farther: a median 4.4 miles, with 11.8% to an airport and 12.2% into Manhattan's congestion zone.
The flow runs in opposite directions for the two kinds of cab. Green cabs picked up 4,985 riders here but dropped off only 2,089. Yellow taxis did the reverse: 16,329 drop-offs against 10,120 pickups.
Pickup rules and the nearest relief stand
- Zone 83 is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51), so green cabs, like yellow taxis, may take street hails here.
- App and other FHV drivers may only take base-dispatched trips (80-19(c)(1)).
- DOT lists no relief stand inside zone 83. A 4-space taxi-only stand on Broadway between 72nd and 73rd Streets sits just across the line in Jackson Heights. An FHV may not park there, because drivers must obey the posted vehicle type (80-19(d)(7)). The closest stand open to FHVs is a 3-space stand on 64th Street between 34th and 35th Avenues in Woodside, about a quarter mile from this zone's edge. More in relief stands in NYC.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
