Elmhurst (TLC zone 82) is one of the five busiest zones in Queens: about 5,517 trips a day start here (2,013,559 in the 12 months to August 2026). It is also the 2nd-busiest green cab zone in Queens, and more than a quarter of those green cab trips go to an airport. App trips are short and slow, so pay per engaged hour is near the bottom of the borough.
Numbers come from TLC trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and app trips (Uber, Lyft), totaled by TLC Help.
Elmhurst at a glance

Zone 82 is separate from the smaller Elmhurst/Maspeth zone (83). The "Boro Zone" label is a TLC data category, not a legal line.

Drop-offs follow a different clock. On weekdays they peak at 8 a.m. (about 360), when only about 254 trips start here. In the morning more riders arrive in Elmhurst than leave it; in the evening it flips. On Sundays 20.0% of drop-offs happen between midnight and 5 a.m.

Green cabs, yellow cabs and apps
Green cabs made 18,940 pickups, about 52 a day, more than any Queens zone except Forest Hills. Their trips have a clear pattern: a median of 3.16 miles and $17.00, but 27.3% go to an airport. Card riders tipped 20.9% of the fare. Green pickups held between about 1,260 and 1,950 a month all year.
App trips are the shortest kind: a median 2.27 miles in 13.5 minutes, with a $14.82 fare and $12.50 driver pay (52nd in Queens). Per engaged hour that is $58.55, the 2nd-lowest in Queens. Engaged hours count only time with a rider, so real earnings per hour are lower still. App riders tip 2.7% of the fare.
Yellow taxis made 26,036 pickups but 49,189 drop-offs. Their trips from here run a median 4.85 miles and $24.59.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
