Fort Greene, TLC taxi zone 97, is a busy evening zone where more rides start than end. It had 1,789,064 pickups from September 2025 to August 2026 (about 4,902 a day, 15th in Brooklyn) and only 1,661,678 drop-offs. It is also one of Brooklyn's two big green-cab zones: 15,707 green pickups, 2nd only to Downtown Brooklyn. But green pickups here fell by about half during 2026.
Fort Greene at a glance (zone 97)
TLC's lookup table lists zone 97 under Brooklyn as a "Boro Zone". That is a label in the data, not a legal boundary. On the TLC map, Fort Greene borders seven zones: Boerum Hill, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Clinton Hill, Downtown Brooklyn/MetroTech, DUMBO/Vinegar Hill, Park Slope and Prospect Heights.
When rides start and end here
Fort Greene's pickups build through the day to a 10 p.m. weekday peak (about 371). Saturdays are the biggest: about 6,620 pickups, with the most at 11 p.m. (about 482). On Sunday the busiest hour is midnight; 18.8% of the day's pickups happen before 5 a.m.
Arrivals come earlier. Drop-offs peak at 7 p.m. on both weekdays and Saturdays, and 22.0% of weekday drop-offs land between 5 and 8 p.m. So the zone fills in the early evening and empties late at night.
The green-cab drop in 2026
Green cabs did between 1,373 and 1,828 pickups a month here from September 2025 to March 2026. Then the numbers slid: 1,255 in April, 1,059 in May and only 747–772 a month in June to August 2026. App and yellow pickups did not fall the same way. The trip data cannot say why green pickups dropped, but it shows the trend clearly.
Green trips from Fort Greene are short: a median of 1.9 miles, 15.1 minutes and a $14.90 metered fare. Card-paying green riders tipped 21.4% of the fare.
Where trips go
Fort Greene riders head mostly east and south within Brooklyn. Clinton Hill takes 5.4% of pickups, Crown Heights North 5.1%, trips within the zone 5.0%, Bedford 4.2% and Park Slope 3.9%. 17.1% of app pickups paid the Congestion Relief Zone charge, and 4.4% went to an airport.
Who serves the zone, and what it pays
The sector split was 1,710,326 app pickups, 63,031 yellow (7th-most in Brooklyn) and 15,707 green. App trips ran a median 3.0 miles with a $20.15 fare and $16.45 driver pay before tips and tolls; riders tipped $1.17 on average. Yellow trips had a median $25.40 fare, and 32.3% of them paid the CRZ charge. App pay per engaged hour was $60.43, which counts only time with a rider.
The Atlantic Avenue pickup curb and the rules
DOT's current parking-sign records (checked 2026-10-12) show a signed taxi and FHV pickup area on Atlantic Avenue, plus FHV-only signs on the same block and on Fulton Street. We found no relief stand or taxi stand here.
The sign covers both taxis and FHVs. It does not change the TLC rules on how a trip starts. Yellow and green cabs may take hails here, since all of Brooklyn is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51). App drivers may only pick up riders who booked through their base (80-19(c)(1)). See who can pick up where.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
