Cambria Heights, TLC taxi zone 38, sits at the eastern edge of Queens, and its most common destination is outside New York City. The zone logged 331,168 pickups over the 12 months to August 2026 (about 907 a day, 51st of Queens' 69 zones). 17.6% of those trips left the city. Pickups also outnumber drop-offs by about 64,000; relative to its size, only four Queens zones have a bigger surplus of pickups.
Cambria Heights at a glance (zone 38)
TLC's zone lookup lists zone 38 as a Queens "Boro Zone". That is a trip-data label, not a legal line. On the TLC map it borders four Queens zones: Saint Albans, Queens Village, Laurelton and Rosedale. For every 100 trips that end here, about 124 start here.
Early starts, even on weekends
On weekdays, pickups peak at 8 a.m. with about 74, and 21% start between 7 and 10 a.m. What stands out is the weekend: both Saturday and Sunday peak at 10 a.m. (about 54 and 53 pickups). In neighbouring Saint Albans, Laurelton and Rosedale, Saturday peaks in the afternoon or evening instead. Weekend days here are about as busy as weekdays (about 907 pickups on a Saturday against 921 on a weekday).
Out of the city, and around southeast Queens
TLC records trips that end beyond the five boroughs as "Outside of NYC" (zone 265); the data does not say where. That is the top destination at 17.6%. Within the city, trips go to Saint Albans (11%), Queens Village (9%), Jamaica (6.6%), Laurelton (5.9%) and JFK (5.4%). Trips into Cambria Heights come most often from Saint Albans (13.5%) and Queens Village (10.5%); JFK sends 6.8%.
Sectors, fares and pay
The 326,781 app pickups (98.7%) dwarf the 4,208 yellow and 179 green ones. App rides here cover more ground than in most of southeast Queens, 3.49 miles at the median, yet take only 13.7 minutes; the median fare is $17.38 and the driver keeps $14.49 before tips. Because trips move quickly, pay per engaged hour ($67.11) is higher than in most of Queens. Riders tipped 2% ($0.47 on average).
Yellow trips from here are long: a median of 13.3 miles, 45.6 minutes and $45.58, the 7th-highest yellow median fare in Queens. Yellow pickups fell from about 385–490 a month to 125–166 a month from June 2026.
Taking a taxi fare into Nassau County
For yellow and green cabs, a trip to Nassau County has its own fare rule (TLC fare page; Chapter 80, §80-17(f)(2)):
- Keep the meter running the whole trip.
- Before you start, tell the passenger how the fare works: the meter amount inside the city, plus twice the meter amount outside the city limits, plus tolls both ways.
- Tell the passenger when you cross the city line, so they can check the meter at that point.
A driver may not refuse a passenger going to Nassau County (§80-20(a)(1)). App trips are priced by the company. Read more in taxi trips outside NYC.
Inside the zone, Hail Zone rules apply: cabs may take hails, and FHV drivers need a base booking (80-19(c)(1)). DOT data listed no relief stand or taxi-stand sign in zone 38 (checked 2026-10-12).

Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
