Rosedale, TLC taxi zone 203, sends more of its riders out of New York City than almost any other Queens zone. 513,448 trips started here from September 2025 to August 2026, about 1,407 a day, 39th of Queens' 69 zones. 26.5% of them ended outside the city, the 2nd-highest share in Queens, and another 23.7% never left Rosedale. Trips into Manhattan's toll zone are the rarest in Queens.
Rosedale at a glance (zone 203)
Zone 203 has the label "Boro Zone" in TLC's lookup table. It is a way to group trip data, not a legal line. On the TLC map it touches Laurelton, Cambria Heights, Springfield Gardens South and the JFK Airport zone. Trips are lopsided: for every 100 trips that end here, about 136 start here, the 2nd-largest gap in Queens.
When rides start here
Rosedale peaks at 8 a.m. on weekdays (about 112 pickups), with 21.1% of weekday pickups between 7 and 10 a.m. Drop-offs peak even earlier, at 7 a.m. Weekend peaks come in the middle of the day: 2 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. Late-night demand is light; on weekdays the 2 a.m. hour averages about 12 pickups.
Out of the city, or around the corner
The top destination is outside New York City (TLC zone 265, 26.5%). The data does not say where those trips end. Next is Rosedale itself (23.7%), then JFK (5.4%), Laurelton (5.4%), Springfield Gardens South (5.1%) and Saint Albans (3.9%). Far Rockaway shows up in the top ten at 1.8%. 5.8% of app pickups went to an airport, 15th in Queens.
Sectors and pay
App rides were 99% of pickups (508,309, against 4,903 yellow and 236 green). Out-of-city trips are only part of the picture: the median app ride was 2.63 miles and 11.2 minutes, paying $11.80 before tips on a $14.29 fare, 63rd in Queens. Trips are quick, so pay per engaged hour ($66.49) ranks 20th. App riders tipped 1.7% ($0.34 on average).
The median yellow trip was 12.6 miles and $43.34, the 10th-highest yellow median fare in Queens. Yellow pickups were 423–561 a month until May 2026 and 125–202 a month in June to August.
Out-of-city trips: tolls and pay
With a quarter of trips leaving the city, the out-of-city rules matter here:
- Taxi tolls. On trips beyond New York City, the passenger pays all necessary tolls to and from the destination, at the actual E-ZPass amount (TLC Chapter 58, §58-26(f)(2)). See tolls on trips outside NYC.
- Taxi fare to Nassau. Meter inside the city plus twice the meter outside; explain it before the trip. Details on the Cambria Heights page and in taxi trips outside NYC.
- App trips. TLC's minimum pay rule for Uber and Lyft trips (§59D-22) has higher out-of-town rates for the miles and minutes driven outside the city on a trip that starts in it: $1.757 a mile (non-WAV) and $0.725 a minute, effective March 1, 2026 (TLC driver pay rates, as of 2026-10-12). See out-of-town rates for Uber drivers.
Inside Rosedale, the Hail Zone applies (Chapter 51): cabs may take hails, FHV drivers only base bookings (80-19(c)(1)). The JFK zone next door is a Hail Exclusionary Zone. DOT data showed no relief stand or taxi-stand sign in zone 203 (checked 2026-10-12).

Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
