Laurelton, TLC taxi zone 139, is a zone of quick local trips that almost never go to Manhattan. TLC data counts 540,197 pickups here in the 12 months to August 2026, about 1,480 a day (38th of Queens' 69 zones). Just 0.9% of app pickups paid the Congestion Relief Zone charge, while 14.3% of trips left the city. Trips are short, so pay per trip is low, but they are fast enough that pay per engaged hour ranks well.
Laurelton at a glance (zone 139)
TLC's lookup table puts zone 139 in Queens with the "Boro Zone" label, which is for sorting trip data, not a legal boundary. Laurelton borders five Queens zones: Cambria Heights, Saint Albans, Springfield Gardens North, Springfield Gardens South and Rosedale. 455,776 trips ended here, about 84,000 fewer than started.
When rides start and end
Pickups peak at 8 a.m. on weekdays (about 117), and 20.6% of weekday pickups start between 7 and 10 a.m. Drop-offs peak an hour earlier, at 7 a.m. (about 98). Saturday pickups build to a 6 p.m. peak, and Sunday's busiest hour is 2 p.m. Sunday is the quietest day, about 1,246 pickups against roughly 1,500 on weekdays and Saturdays.
Where trips go
18.1% of pickups end inside Laurelton, and 14.3% end outside New York City (TLC zone 265; the data does not say where). Then come Saint Albans (9.4%), Springfield Gardens South (6.9%), Rosedale (5.5%), JFK (5.2%) and Jamaica (4.7%). 5.7% of app pickups went to an airport, 16th in Queens. Of the trips that end here, 21.4% also started here.
Pay: low per trip, better per hour
Ninety-nine of every 100 pickups were app rides (534,690; yellow 5,271, green 236). They are among the quickest in Queens, 2.53 miles and 11.2 minutes at the median, so a $14.32 fare leaves the driver $11.47 before tips, 65th of 69 Queens zones. Because the trips are so quick, pay per engaged hour comes to $65.59, 22nd in Queens. Remember that engaged-hour pay only counts time with a rider; waiting and driving to the next pickup lower real hourly earnings. Tips were 1.8% of the fare ($0.36 on average).
Laurelton also grew faster than most of its neighbours over the year: pickups from June to August 2026 were 13.4% above September to November 2025, compared with 6.9% in Cambria Heights and 8% in Rosedale.
Yellow trips are long (median 11.98 miles, 46.9 minutes, $41.50). Yellow pickups ran 473–612 a month through May 2026, then 96–170 a month in June to August.
Rules that matter here
Laurelton is in the Hail Zone (Chapter 51), so yellow and green cabs may pick up hails. FHV drivers, app drivers included, may pick up only through their base (80-19(c)(1)). With so many trips leaving the city, one more rule is worth knowing: a driver must not refuse a passenger going anywhere in the city, Westchester or Nassau County, or Newark Airport, unless one of the reasons listed in rule 80-20(b) applies (§80-20(a)(1)). See service refusal rules and, for how a Nassau taxi fare is worked out, taxi trips outside NYC. DOT data listed no relief stand or taxi-stand sign in zone 139 (checked 2026-10-12).

Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
