Corona zone 56 is a morning-departure, late-return zone. About 2,320 trips a day start here (846,799 in the 12 months to August 2026, 19th of 67 Queens zones outside the airports). Pickups peak at 8 a.m. on weekdays, while drop-offs peak around 10 p.m. Trips are short and local, and very few go to the airports.
TLC has two zones called Corona: this one (56) and the much smaller Corona zone 57. Data here is from TLC trip records for yellow, green and app trips, totaled by TLC Help.
Corona (56) at a glance
On TLC's map, zone 56 borders six zones: Corona 57, Elmhurst (82), Flushing Meadows-Corona Park (93), Forest Hills (95), North Corona (173) and Rego Park (196). The "Boro Zone" label in TLC's lookup table is a data category, not a legal zone.
Out in the morning, back at night
The hourly charts show two different shapes. Pickups rise steeply on weekday mornings: 8 a.m. averages about 186, and 7 a.m. about 169. 28.4% of weekday pickups happen from 6 to 10 a.m., one of the highest morning shares in Queens.
Drop-offs do the opposite. They peak at 10 p.m. on weekdays (about 129) and 11 p.m. on Saturdays (about 178). On Sundays, 27.2% of drop-offs happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
Month by month
Pickups climbed from 61,276 in September 2025 to a high of 78,685 in December 2025, and stayed above 71,000 in most months after that.
Where trips go
Trips stay close. Elmhurst takes 13.9%, then North Corona (9.1%), Jackson Heights (7.0%) and Forest Hills (6.7%). Only 5.1% stay inside zone 56. No airport is in the top ten destinations, and 4.7% of app pickups paid the Manhattan congestion fee.
Arrivals come from the same neighbors: Elmhurst sends 14.5% of drop-offs, North Corona 8.6% and Jackson Heights 7.2%. One difference: JFK Airport is among the top ten origins (15,895 trips, 2.0% of drop-offs) but not among the top ten destinations. East Elmhurst, the zone next to LaGuardia, is on both lists at about 2%.
Fares, pay and tips
Short trips mean modest pay. The median app trip is 2.56 miles in 13.8 minutes, with a $15.62 fare and $13.19 driver pay (45th in Queens). Pay per engaged hour is $60.61; that counts passenger time only, so real hourly pay is lower. App riders tipped 2.1% of the fare, an average of $0.41 a trip, below the Queens middle of 3.3%.
Yellow taxis bring more people in than they take out: 28,354 drop-offs against 10,919 pickups. Yellow trips that start here run a median 7.39 miles, and 12.4% of them paid the Manhattan congestion fee, more than twice the app share. Green cabs made 551 pickups and 1,810 drop-offs.
Pickup rules
Zone 56 is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51): yellow and green cabs may take street hails. App drivers may only take trips their base dispatches (80-19(c)(1)). DOT lists no relief stand in the zone; the nearest in its data is the 4-space, taxi-only stand on Broadway between 72nd and 73rd Streets in Jackson Heights, about 1.4 miles away. FHVs can't use it; the closest stand open to them is on 64th Street between 34th and 35th Avenues in Woodside, about 1.7 miles away. See relief stands in NYC.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
