Rego Park (TLC zone 196) is an evening zone. About 1,940 trips a day start here (708,091 in 12 months to August 2026), and a quarter of them start between 4 and 8 p.m., the highest weekday evening share of any Queens zone with at least 100 pickups a day (only three tiny park and beach zones are higher). Late nights are quiet. Forest Hills, next door, is the top destination (16.5%).
All numbers come from TLC trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and app trips (Uber, Lyft), totaled by TLC Help.
Rego Park at a glance
TLC's zone map gives Rego Park five neighbors: Corona (56), Elmhurst (82), Forest Hills (95), Glendale (102) and Middle Village (160). The "Boro Zone" label from TLC's lookup table groups data and is not a legal line.
Evenings every day
The evening peak holds all week:
- Weekdays: pickups peak at 6 p.m. (about 131) and 5 p.m. (about 130), with a smaller morning high at 8 a.m. (about 126).
- Saturdays: 6 p.m. (about 141) is the busiest hour of the whole week, then 7 p.m. (about 138).
- Sundays: 4 to 6 p.m., at about 114 to 117 an hour.
Saturday is the busiest day overall, with about 2,047 pickups, against 1,958 on a weekday and 1,743 on a Sunday.
Arrivals have a different shape. Weekday drop-offs peak at 8 a.m. (about 139), then fall through the day. On Saturdays, arrivals and departures line up: drop-offs top out at 7 p.m. (about 104), an hour after the pickup peak. Few trips start late at night: just 4.5% of weekday pickups and 9.7% of Sunday pickups happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
Month by month
Pickups were lowest in September 2025 (51,506) and highest in December 2025 (66,576). From January to August 2026 they stayed between about 56,700 and 62,600 a month.
Where trips go
Forest Hills takes 16.5% of pickups, more than twice the next zone, Elmhurst (7.5%). Trips inside Rego Park (5.5%), Middle Village (4.4%) and Corona (4.2%) follow. The flow runs both ways: Forest Hills also sends 15.5% of the trips that end here. JFK is in the top ten origins (2.1%) but not the top ten destinations.
Fares and pay
The median app trip is 3.06 miles in 14.6 minutes, with a $16.94 fare and $14.31 driver pay, close to the Queens middle. Pay per engaged hour is $60.52 (52nd of 67), lower than most of Queens because trips are slow for their length. Engaged hours include only time with a passenger. App riders tipped 3.7% of the fare.
Yellow taxis made 10,796 pickups and more than twice as many drop-offs (24,246). Green cabs made 1,520 pickups; card riders on those trips tipped 16.5%. 5.6% of app pickups paid the Manhattan congestion fee.
Pickup rules
Rego Park is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51), so yellow and green cabs may take hails. App drivers take only trips dispatched by their base (80-19(c)(1)). DOT lists no relief stand in the zone. The closest are a taxi-only stand on Broadway in Jackson Heights (about 1.5 miles) and a taxi/FHV stand on 64th Street in Woodside (about 1.9 miles). Read the posted sign before parking at either; the relief stand guide explains why.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
