The Crotona Park taxi zone (TLC zone 59) is mostly park, and its trip data looks like it. Only about 85 trips a day start here (31,136 in the 12 months to August 2026), the fewest of any Bronx zone except Rikers Island. More people arrive than leave: there were 18% more drop-offs than pickups, the biggest gap in the borough. Arrivals peak on weekend afternoons, and the zone gets busier in summer.
App trips were 30,790 of the 31,136 pickups. Yellow taxis made 334 and green cabs just 12 in 12 months. All counts are TLC Help's sums of TLC trip records, which leave out non-app black car and livery rides.
Crotona Park at a glance
Zone 59 is surrounded by four busier zones: Claremont/Bathgate (47), Crotona Park East (60), East Tremont (78) and Morrisania/Melrose (167). TLC's lookup table calls it a "Boro Zone", which is only a data label.
Arrivals on weekend afternoons
The drop-off chart shows when people come. On Saturdays, drop-offs peak at 5 p.m. (about 11) and 4 p.m. (about 10), and 30.6% of Saturday drop-offs happen between 4 and 8 p.m. Sundays are similar, with the most drop-offs from 3 to 5 p.m. On weekdays the morning matters more: drop-offs peak at 7–8 a.m.
Pickups come later. Saturday pickups peak at 9 p.m. (about 10) and 8 p.m. Late nights are quiet: only 10.5% of Sunday pickups start between midnight and 5 a.m., tied for the lowest share in the Bronx.
Busier in summer
From September 2025 to February 2026, pickups held at about 2,300 to 2,400 a month. They then rose: 2,812 in March, 2,909 in May and 3,049 in July 2026, the busiest month. Drop-offs rose more, to 3,784 in August. Yellow taxis made only 334 pickups in the whole year, and green cabs 12.
Where trips go
Trips from here scatter across the nearby south and central Bronx. East Tremont leads with 6.7%, followed by East Concourse/Concourse Village (4.5%) and Claremont/Bathgate, Morrisania/Melrose and Melrose South (4.2% each). Trips that stay inside zone 59 are not in the top ten. The trips that arrive come most often from East Tremont (7.3%) and Crotona Park East (5.2%).
Fares and pay
App trips from here look like the Bronx average. The median is 2.41 miles, 14.2 minutes and $15.28 in fare, with $13.48 median driver pay, right at the Bronx middle ($13.50). Riders tip 1.6% of the fare. Yellow cab medians ($29.27, 6.01 miles) rest on only 334 trips. About 0.7% of app pickups went to an airport, and 3.2% paid the MTA Congestion Relief Zone fee because they ended in, or drove through, Manhattan at or below 60th Street. The zone itself is far outside that area.
Pickup rules and the nearest stand
- Zone 59 is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51): yellow and green cabs may take hails. Uber and Lyft drivers must not accept a hail at the park's edge; every pickup has to come through the base (80-19(c)(1)).
- NYC DOT lists no relief stand or taxi-stand sign in the zone (checked October 2026). The closest relief stand is the 6-space taxi/FHV stand on Southern Boulevard (East Tremont Avenue to East 178th Street), about 0.26 miles from the zone's edge in a straight line. You may leave the car there for up to one hour (DOT), following the sign (80-19(d)(7)). More in relief stands.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
