East Tremont (TLC zone 78) is one of the Bronx's busiest app zones, and one of the few with a relief stand that Uber and Lyft drivers may use. In the 12 months to August 2026, 1,167,206 trips started here, about 3,198 a day, 9th of 43 Bronx zones. The weekday 8 a.m. hour is the peak. Trips are short and spread over many nearby zones.

Yellow taxis made 10,829 of those pickups, green cabs 338, and Uber and Lyft the other 1,156,039, according to TLC trip records that TLC Help added up. Rides from black car and livery bases outside the big apps do not appear in that data.

Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Medians/rates need ≥250 trips (else null). labels are LocationIDs as strings; zones[] has names, boroughs, service_zone (from taxi_zone_lookup.csv), suggested slugs and neighbouring zone ids (shared boundary, from taxi_zones.zip).

The relief stand on Southern Boulevard

NYC DOT's relief-stand dataset (vqu8-xef9, checked October 2026) puts one stand in zone 78:

  • Southern Boulevard, east side, from East Tremont Avenue to East 178th Street: 6 spaces, taxi/FHV, 1 hour limit. DOT's sign records (nfid-uabd) show the matching signs, with a sign order completed in October 2021.

Six spaces is the largest taxi/FHV relief stand DOT lists in the Bronx. (The two bigger Bronx stands, on Park Avenue in Mott Haven, are for taxis only.) A relief stand lets you park and leave the car for up to one hour (DOT). You must follow what the sign says about vehicle type and time (80-19(d)(7), $50). It is not a taxi stand: you may not wait there for passengers. See can Uber drivers use relief stands?

Pickup rules

East Tremont is in TLC's Hail Zone, like the rest of the Bronx (Chapter 51), so green cabs may take street hails. App and other FHV drivers may only take base-dispatched trips (80-19(c)(1)). The zone is far from the MTA Congestion Relief Zone; the 2.7% of app pickups that paid that fee were trips into Manhattan at or below 60th Street.
