East Flatbush/Remsen Village (TLC zone 72) is a morning-heavy zone of short trips that spread in every direction. From September 2025 to August 2026, 1,306,739 trips started here (about 3,580 a day), 21st of 61 Brooklyn zones. The busiest hour of the week is 8 a.m. on weekdays, and four destinations (the zone itself, Crown Heights North, Canarsie and Brownsville) each take 8% to 10% of trips. The zone also has a taxi stand on Utica Avenue in DOT's sign data.

These numbers come from TLC trip records for yellow, green and high-volume app (Uber, Lyft) trips, aggregated by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips not dispatched through an app are not included.

'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Medians/rates need ≥250 trips (else null). labels are LocationIDs as strings; zones[] has names, boroughs, service_zone (from taxi_zone_lookup.csv), suggested slugs and neighbouring zone ids (shared boundary, from taxi_zones.zip).

The Utica Avenue taxi stand and pickup rules

DOT's current sign records show a taxi stand on Utica Avenue between Linden Boulevard and Church Avenue (nfid-uabd, checked October 12, 2026). DOT lists no relief stand in the zone. Under TLC Chapter 80:

  • A yellow cab may take any vacant spot at a taxi stand, and so may a green cab at a stand in the Hail Zone, which covers all of Brooklyn (80-19(d)(1)).
  • An app or other for-hire driver must not pick up at a taxi stand (80-19(d)(2); $350 for a first violation).
  • Taxi and green cab drivers must not solicit or cruise within 100 feet of the stand (80-19(a)(4)(ii)), and must join the line at the rear (80-19(d)(4)).

Elsewhere in the zone, yellow and green cabs may take hails, and app drivers need a base dispatch (80-19(c)(1)). See taxi stand rules. This is general information, not legal advice.
