Canarsie (TLC zone 39) is a big, inward-looking app market. From September 2025 to August 2026, 1,966,477 trips started here (about 5,388 a day), 13th of 61 Brooklyn zones. 30.1% of those trips also ended in Canarsie, one of the highest shares in the city. Weekday mornings are the busiest time, with about 408 pickups in the 8 a.m. hour. Trips are short, so pay per trip is low, but there are many of them.
The data comes from TLC trip records for yellow, green and high-volume app (Uber, Lyft) trips, aggregated by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips not dispatched through an app are not included.
Canarsie at a glance
TLC's lookup table calls zone 39 a Brooklyn "Boro Zone". The label is for data only. On TLC's map, Canarsie borders five zones: East Flatbush/Remsen Village, East New York, Flatlands, Marine Park/Mill Basin and Starrett City.
Apps did 98.2% of pickups. Yellow cabs had 33,283 (1.7%), and green cabs 1,341, 13th in Brooklyn. More trips start here (1,966,477) than end here (1,896,204).
When rides start
The morning rush is the main event. On weekdays pickups climb from about 158 an hour at 5 a.m. to about 364 at 7 a.m. and 408 at 8 a.m., then drop to about 220 by 11 a.m. A smaller afternoon rise reaches about 300 at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Weekends are flatter. Saturday (about 5,798 pickups) holds at about 285 to 314 an hour from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday (about 5,087) peaks at 10 a.m. (about 305) and then eases off through the day. A weekday averages about 5,366 pickups. Nights are fairly quiet here, at about 60 an hour around 2 to 3 a.m. on weekdays.
Month by month
March 2026 was the busiest month (176,533 pickups) and September 2025 the quietest (143,411). Summer 2026 stayed high, at about 166,000 to 168,000 a month.
Yellow pickups were about 2,800 to 3,800 a month until May 2026, then fell to about 1,000 to 1,200 a month from June. Green cab pickups rose slightly over the same months. The data gives no reason for the yellow drop.
Where trips go
Almost a third of trips stay in Canarsie. The rest mostly go to nearby east Brooklyn zones:
- Canarsie itself: 30.1%
- East New York: 9.3%
- East Flatbush/Remsen Village: 6.1%
- Flatlands: 5.9%
- Brownsville: 4.1%
- Marine Park/Mill Basin: 3.5%
Among all NYC zones with more than 100,000 pickups, only Borough Park, East New York and three zones in Queens and Staten Island keep a larger share of trips inside the zone.
Fares, trip length and driver pay
The median app trip is 2.22 miles and 12.2 minutes, with a $13.81 fare. The median driver pay is $11.38 before tips and tolls, 52nd of 61 in Brooklyn. Tips are small: 1.4% of fares, $0.27 a trip on average.
Only 1.2% of app pickups go into the Manhattan congestion zone. Only East New York, also at 1.2% when rounded, has a lower share in Brooklyn. 2.5% go to an airport. Yellow trips are longer, at a median 4.55 miles and $25.50 on the meter.
Pickup rules here
Canarsie is in TLC's Hail Zone. Yellow and green cabs may take street hails here. App and other for-hire drivers may only pick up riders dispatched by their base. A street pickup can lead to a summons under 80-19(c)(1): $200–$350 for a first violation, with suspension and revocation for repeats (Chapter 80). See who can pick up where. This is general information, not legal advice.
Stands: DOT's open data lists no relief stand, taxi stand or taxi/FHV pickup zone in zone 39 (checked October 12, 2026).

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
