East Flushing (TLC zone 73) is a morning zone that feeds Flushing. About 758 rides a day start here, and pickups peak in the morning on every day of the week, even Saturday and Sunday. 22% of trips go to Flushing, a bigger share than from any other zone that borders Flushing. Almost every ride is an app trip: yellow taxis made 0.5% of pickups, the lowest share in Queens outside the airports.
Trip numbers are TLC Help's totals of TLC trip records for September 2025 to August 2026. With yellow and green cabs at well under 1% of pickups, the charts below are almost entirely Uber and Lyft trips.
East Flushing at a glance
On TLC's zone map, zone 73 touches four zones: Auburndale (9), Flushing (92), Murray Hill-Queens (171) and Queensboro Hill (192). TLC's lookup table calls it a "Boro Zone". That label sorts data; it is not a legal line (taxi zones explained).
Morning first, every day
On weekdays, pickups jump from about 19 at 5 a.m. to 66 at 8 a.m., the busiest hour of the week, then settle at about 34–43 an hour through 7 p.m. and fall off at night. Weekends keep the morning lead, just later: Saturday peaks at 9 a.m. (about 47) and Sunday at 10 a.m. (about 43). 24.8% of the week's pickups start between 6 and 10 a.m.
Drop-offs run the other way. They peak at 6 p.m. on weekdays and late at night on weekends (11 p.m. on Saturday, 10 p.m. on Sunday). In other words, the data shows riders heading out in the morning and arriving back at night.
Month by month
Pickups rose from 20,230 in September 2025 to 25,344 in December 2025, then stayed between about 22,250 and 24,760 a month through August 2026. The spread between the quietest and busiest month is small, so the zone has no real slow season in this data. The yellow taxi count shrank in summer, from 174 in January to 48 in August.
Where trips go
Flushing takes 22% of pickups and Murray Hill-Queens 10.7%: a third of all trips go to those two zones. That Flushing share is higher than from Murray Hill-Queens (21.1%) or College Point (16.2%). Then Bayside (4.6%), trips inside East Flushing (4.5%), Auburndale (3.7%) and Queensboro Hill (3.1%). Flushing is also the top origin of incoming riders (22.5% of drop-offs). Airport trips are rare: 2.8% of app pickups, 59th of 67.
Fares and pay
The median app trip is 2.43 miles and 13.3 minutes, with a $14.94 fare and $12.54 driver pay (51st of 67). Pay per engaged hour is $61.63, a little under the Queens middle of $62.57. That figure divides pay by time with a rider only, so it is higher than real hourly earnings. App riders tipped 3.1% of the fare, about $0.62 a trip.
The Manhattan congestion fee touched just 3.0% of app pickups. Yellow taxis dropped off 4,892 riders here but picked up only 1,510, and their card riders tipped 0.7%.
Pickup rules here
- East Flushing is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51), so yellow and green cabs may accept hails. App and other FHV drivers may only pick up riders who booked through their base (80-19(c)(1); who can pick up where).
- Zone 73 has no relief stand in DOT's data; the nearest are about 4 miles away in a straight line, in Jackson Heights (taxi only) and Woodside (relief stands guide).

Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
