Auburndale (TLC zone 9) is a small, weekday-driven zone: about 655 pickups a day, 54th of the 67 Queens zones outside the airports. Unlike most of Queens, weekdays are busier than Saturdays. The day starts with an 8 a.m. peak and has a second rise in the early afternoon. Trips are short, and Bayside and Flushing are the top destinations.
All trip numbers here are TLC Help's totals from TLC trip records, September 2025 to August 2026, for yellow taxis, green cabs and Uber/Lyft. Non-app black car and livery trips are not counted.
Auburndale at a glance
On TLC's zone map, zone 9 touches six zones: Bayside (16), East Flushing (73), Fresh Meadows (98), Hillcrest/Pomonok (121), Murray Hill-Queens (171) and Queensboro Hill (192). Its TLC label is "Boro Zone", a data category, not a legal line (taxi zones explained).
A weekday rhythm
On weekdays, pickups climb from about 11 at 5 a.m. to 57 at 8 a.m., the busiest hour of the week. They dip mid-morning, then rise again to about 46 at 2 and 3 p.m., and fall off after 6 p.m. Drop-offs also peak at 8 a.m. on weekdays (about 72), so mornings bring traffic in both directions.
Weekends are calmer. Saturday's top hour is 6 p.m. (about 39) and Sunday's is 10 a.m. (about 31). Nights are quiet all week: 7.3% of pickups start between midnight and 5 a.m.
Month by month
Monthly pickups ranged from 17,961 in September 2025 to 21,515 in March 2026. Summer was a little slower than spring: 19,362 in August. Yellow taxis were a small part all year and fell to 73–78 pickups a month from June 2026.
Where trips go
Bayside is the top destination (10.7%), just ahead of trips inside Auburndale (8.8%) and Flushing (8.2%). Murray Hill-Queens takes 7.1%, then Outside NYC (4.3%), Fresh Meadows (4.0%) and East Flushing (3.5%). LaGuardia gets 2.4%. Riders arriving here come from the same places, led by Bayside (10.4% of drop-offs) and Flushing (8.7%).
Fares and pay
The median app trip is 3.06 miles in 12.8 minutes, with a $16.14 fare and $13.35 driver pay (42nd of 67). Trips move quickly, so pay per engaged hour is $65.86, 19th in Queens. Engaged time is only time with a passenger, so it is not what you earn per hour once you count waiting. App riders tipped 4.6% of the fare, above the Queens middle of 3.3%.
Only 3.0% of app pickups paid the Manhattan congestion fee and 4.9% went to an airport.
Yellow taxis bring more riders here than they take away: 5,441 drop-offs against 1,740 pickups in the year. The yellow trips that do start here are long, a median of 7.65 miles and a $31.66 metered fare, but card riders tipped only 2.4%.
Pickup rules here
- Auburndale is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51), so yellow and green cabs may take hails. App and other FHV drivers may only pick up base-dispatched trips (80-19(c)(1); who can pick up where).
- Relief stands: DOT lists none in zone 9, and the nearest (Jackson Heights and Woodside) are about 5 miles away in a straight line (relief stands guide).

Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
