Greenpoint is TLC taxi zone 112, at the northern tip of Brooklyn. It is one of the busiest zones in the borough: 2,597,393 pickups from September 2025 to August 2026, about 7,116 a day, the 4th-highest of Brooklyn's 61 zones. Almost all of those rides (97.2%) were Uber or Lyft trips.
What sets Greenpoint apart from its neighbours is that it is busy in two ways. Like the rest of north Brooklyn, it peaks late on Saturday night. But it also has a real weekday morning rush, which nearby Williamsburg mostly lacks.
Greenpoint at a glance (zone 112)
TLC's zone lookup table puts zone 112 in Brooklyn with the label "Boro Zone". That label is only a category in the trip data; it is not a legal boundary. On the TLC zone map, Greenpoint shares a border with just two zones: Williamsburg (North Side) and East Williamsburg.
When rides start and end here
On an average weekday, pickups climb fast after 5 a.m. and reach about 386 in the 8 a.m. hour. Then they dip through midday and rise again to the weekday high, about 424 at 6 p.m. Between 7 and 10 a.m., Greenpoint has 16.9% of its weekday pickups. In Williamsburg (North Side) next door, the same hours have only 9.4%.
Weekends look different. Saturday is the busiest day, with about 11,000 pickups, and the top hour is Saturday at 11 p.m. (about 760 pickups). Sunday's busiest hour is midnight, the end of Saturday night. A quarter of Sunday's pickups (25.2%) happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
The year was steady. The busiest month was October 2025 (229,947 pickups) and the quietest was September 2025 (199,617). No month fell far from the average of about 216,000.
Where trips from here go, and where they come from
Most Greenpoint trips are short hops inside north Brooklyn and across Newtown Creek. Williamsburg (North Side) took 9.6% of pickups, 9.5% stayed inside Greenpoint, and Long Island City/Hunters Point in Queens took 7.2%. Sunnyside, also in Queens, is in the top ten too. Trips coming in show the same pattern: Williamsburg (North Side) sent 10.0% of all drop-offs.
Yellow, green and app: who serves Greenpoint
App trips: 2,525,384 pickups. Yellow taxis: 70,916 pickups, but 145,150 drop-offs. So taxis bring about twice as many riders into Greenpoint as they pick up there. Green cabs did 1,093 pickups, with the most in August 2026 (166).
Fares, trip length and driver pay
App trips from Greenpoint run longer than most in Brooklyn: a median of 3.55 miles and 17.3 minutes. The median app driver pay was $17.17 per trip, 10th of 61 Brooklyn zones. That figure is before tips and tolls; app riders tipped an average of $1.25. Pay per engaged hour ($60.14) counts only time with a rider on board, so it is not what you earn per hour online.
The typical yellow trip was 4.28 miles with a $25.75 metered fare. Card-paying taxi riders tipped 11.5% of the fare (cash tips are not recorded).
Pickup rules and legal lines
Greenpoint is outside every Manhattan line. It is in TLC's Hail Zone, so yellow taxis and green cabs may both accept street hails here (Chapter 51). App and other for-hire drivers may only pick up riders who booked through a licensed base (80-19(c)(1)).
The zone is not in the Congestion Relief Zone. Still, 21.5% of app pickups and 38.7% of yellow pickups here carried the CRZ charge, because MTA charges it on every trip "to/from/within/through" the zone (MTA). As of 2026-10-12 that is $1.50 per Uber/Lyft trip and $0.75 per taxi trip, collected from the rider. See who can pick up where.
Stands and practical notes
We checked DOT's relief-stand list (vqu8-xef9) and current parking-sign records (nfid-uabd) on 2026-10-12. Neither shows a relief stand or taxi-stand sign inside zone 112. The sign records do show one "FOR-HIRE VEHICLES ONLY PICK-UP / DROP-OFF ONLY" sign on West Street between Milton Street and Greenpoint Avenue (order S-01470013). Follow the posted sign for its exact limits. The nearest relief stand in DOT's list is on North 6th Street in Williamsburg (North Side). Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
