All Brooklyn zones, ranked
Top and bottom zones, and what explains them
Two kinds of busy. The top of the list mixes big residential zones that peak in the morning (East New York, Canarsie and Flatlands all peak at 8am on weekdays) with nightlife zones that peak late on weekends. Bushwick South and Bushwick North peak at 1am on Sunday, Williamsburg (North Side) and East Williamsburg at midnight on Sunday, and Crown Heights North, Greenpoint, Park Slope and 10 other zones at 11pm on Saturday. In total, 24 of 61 zones peak at 8am on weekdays and 13 at 11pm on Saturday.
Near Manhattan, yellow cabs and longer trips. Yellow taxis made 2.3% of Brooklyn pickups, but more in the zones closest to Manhattan: DUMBO/Vinegar Hill (5.8%), Brooklyn Heights (4.8%), Downtown Brooklyn/MetroTech (4.6%) and Williamsburg (North Side) (4.1%). The same zones have the highest share of app pickups charged the Manhattan congestion relief fee, led by DUMBO/Vinegar Hill (34.9%) and Brooklyn Heights (27.1%), and the highest share going to an airport, led by Downtown Brooklyn/MetroTech (7.6%).
Green cabs cluster downtown. Downtown Brooklyn/MetroTech (16,124 green pickups) and Fort Greene (15,707) are in the citywide top 10 for green cabs; DUMBO/Vinegar Hill has 9,378. See where green cabs get hails.
The bottom of the list is parks and open land. Green-Wood Cemetery (10,483 pickups), Marine Park/Floyd Bennett Field (22,307), Prospect Park (151,954), Columbia Street (153,426) and Brooklyn Navy Yard (229,126) have the fewest. Prospect Park received 206,021 drop-offs, a third more than its pickups.
Pay per trip ranges from $9.51 to $19.78. South Williamsburg ($9.51), Homecrest ($10.05) and Borough Park ($10.61) have the lowest median app pay per trip; Red Hook ($19.78), Brooklyn Heights ($19.23) and DUMBO/Vinegar Hill ($18.69) the highest. The middle Brooklyn zone is $13.90. The low-pay zones also have some of the lowest median fares, a sign of shorter trips. Pay per engaged hour falls in a narrow band, $55.74 to $64.95.
Where Brooklyn trips go
In TLC Help's borough-to-borough count for the same period, 76.3% of Brooklyn pickups ended in Brooklyn, 10.9% in Manhattan and 7.2% in Queens. Brooklyn is a slight net destination: 70.5 million drop-offs against 70.3 million pickups. App pickups in Brooklyn were 7.9% higher in January–August 2026 than in the same months of 2025 (c5iv-bn4s). More: borough-to-borough trip flows, Uber/Lyft trips by borough.
Data caveats
- Period: pickups that started September 1, 2025 – August 31, 2026, the latest 12 months published on October 12, 2026. TLC releases trip files about two months after each month ends and may revise them.
- Coverage: yellow taxis, green cabs and high-volume FHVs (Uber, Lyft) only. Brooklyn car-service and black car trips that don't go through Uber or Lyft are not in these numbers.
- Suppressed cells: medians and shares need at least 250 trips; counts of 1–9 are hidden.
- Pay: TLC's driver_pay field is net of commission and excludes tips and tolls. "Per engaged hour" counts only passenger time, so it is not what a driver earns per hour and not TLC's minimum-pay formula.
What the data can't tell you
- How many drivers were competing for trips in each zone.
- Exact streets, or whether stopping there is allowed.
- Why a zone peaks when it does; the hours above are facts from the data, not explanations.
Other boroughs: Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island. Citywide: NYC taxi zone data and busiest drop-off zones. Rules for picking up in the borough: Brooklyn location page. More on the places hub.
