'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). Yellow, green and app

App: 1,410,153 pickups. Yellow: 651,892, a 31.6% share that matches the middle of Manhattan's Yellow Zone zones exactly. Green: 21 pickups and 537 drop-offs. Green cabs may not take hails or begin pre-arranged trips here (who can pick up where).

Fares and driver pay

Median yellow trip: 1.78 miles, 12.6 minutes, $14.20 on the meter, with a 23.5% card tip rate. Median app trip: 2.53 miles, a $24.95 fare and $17.56 driver pay. App riders tipped $1.55 on average (4.8% of the fare). Pay per engaged hour ($65.91) leaves out waiting time, so it is not hourly earnings.
