SoHo (TLC zone 211) is busiest in daylight at the weekend, unlike the zones around it. On Saturdays, riders arrive around noon and leave around 6 p.m.; the top Saturday pickup hour is 6 p.m., not midnight. Over the 12 months to August 2026, SoHo had 1,708,254 pickups (about 4,680 a day, 40th in Manhattan), and 78% of them were Uber or Lyft trips.

Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Medians/rates need ≥250 trips (else null). labels are LocationIDs as strings; zones[] has names, boroughs, service_zone (from taxi_zone_lookup.csv), suggested slugs and neighbouring zone ids (shared boundary, from taxi_zones.zip).

SoHo at a glance (zone 211)

The TLC lookup table calls zone 211 a "Yellow Zone". That only labels the data; it isn't a legal boundary. SoHo touches four zones: Greenwich Village South, Hudson Sq, Little Italy/NoLiTa and TriBeCa/Civic Center. Canal Street runs along its southern edge.

SoHo is entirely inside the MTA Congestion Relief Zone (99.6% of app pickups and 98.8% of yellow pickups were charged). As of 2026-10-12 the rider pays $1.50 per app trip and $0.75 per taxi trip. It is also in the Hail Exclusionary Zone and the 96th Street congestion-surcharge area. Across Canal Street to the south, NYC DOT's Lower Manhattan Regional Slow Zone sets a 20 mph limit; SoHo itself is north of that line.

Stands and practical notes

DOT lists one relief stand in SoHo (checked 2026-10-12): Thompson Street between Grand Street and Avenue of the Americas, west side, 4 spaces, taxis only, 1-hour limit. Because it is signed for taxis, app drivers must look elsewhere; TLC Rule 80-19(d)(7) requires drivers to obey the posted vehicle type. There are no taxi-stand signs in the zone in DOT's sign file.
