Mariners Harbor (taxi zone 156) is one of Staten Island's four busiest zones, with about 1,016 pickups a day. Its rides are short and stay close: more than a quarter end inside the zone, and riders here tip the least on the island (2.7% of the fare). It is also a zone where far more trips start than end: 56,092 more pickups than drop-offs in a year.
All numbers are from TLC trip records (yellow, green, Uber and Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, counted by TLC Help. Local car services and liveries that do not dispatch through Uber or Lyft are missing from these files.
Zone 156 at a glance
Mariners Harbor has only two neighbors on TLC's zone map: Port Richmond (187) and Bloomfield/Emerson Hill (23). TLC tags it "Boro Zone", a data label rather than a legal zone (taxi zones explained).
When rides start
The weekday rush is early and sharp: pickups climb from about 45 in the 6 a.m. hour to 84 at 8 a.m., the busiest hour of the week. On weekends the peak moves to 2 p.m. (about 64 on Saturday, 48 on Sunday). Drop-offs peak later, at 5 p.m. on weekdays (about 63).
Month by month
App pickups grew from 26,015 in September 2025 to a peak of 35,237 in March 2026, then settled at 30,000–32,000 a month over the summer. Yellow taxis made 142 pickups all year and green cabs 5.
Where trips go
27.1% of pickups end inside Mariners Harbor, and 19.4% in Bloomfield/Emerson Hill next door. Then come Port Richmond (9.3%) and Saint George/New Brighton (8.8%). Nine of the top ten destinations are Staten Island zones; the tenth is outside New York City (TLC zone 265), at 2.5%. Just 1.3% of app pickups went to an airport.
Trips coming in look the same in reverse. Of the 314,819 drop-offs here, 31.9% started inside Mariners Harbor, 15.2% in Bloomfield/Emerson Hill, 10.2% in Port Richmond and 8.8% in St. George. In both directions, the same four zones lead the list.
Fares and pay
The median app trip is 2.83 miles and 10.8 minutes, paying $11.30 on a $13.51 fare. Per trip, that is 17th of Staten Island's 19 zones with more than 1,000 pickups. Trips are quick, though, so pay per engaged hour ($68.27) sits near the island's middle. That hourly figure counts only time with a rider. With tips at $0.51 on average, the tip adds little here.
Rules for pickups and trips out of the city
- App drivers: pickups must be dispatched by your base (80-19(c)(1)). Turn down anyone who asks for a ride outside the app.
- Yellow taxis and green cabs may take street hails here, because all of Staten Island is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51). See who can pick up where.
- Trips outside the city: 2.5% of trips from this zone end outside NYC. In a taxi or green cab, a trip beyond the city (other than Westchester, Nassau or Newark Airport) needs a flat dollar price agreed before you start, with the meter still running (80-17(f)(1)). Details in out-of-city taxi fares.
- No relief stands are listed on Staten Island in DOT's data (vqu8-xef9, checked October 12, 2026).

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
