Parkchester at a glance
TLC's map shows four neighbors: Soundview/Bruckner (212), Van Nest/Morris Park (242), West Farms/Bronx River (248) and Westchester Village/Unionport (250). By pickups it ranks 26th of 43 Bronx zones. Its "Boro Zone" label in TLC's lookup table is a data category with no legal effect.
Mornings out, afternoons back
On weekdays, pickups peak at 8 a.m. (about 175) and 7 a.m. (156). Drop-offs peak in the afternoon instead: 5 p.m. (119), 4 p.m. (113) and 3 p.m. (106). In the morning, about 556 trips start here between 6 and 10 a.m. on an average weekday, while only about 254 end here.
Weekends are calmer and earlier than in most Bronx zones. Saturday's top pickup hour is 2 p.m. (124), and Sunday's is 10 a.m. (99). Late nights are quiet: only 11.6% of Sunday pickups happen between midnight and 5 a.m., one of the lowest shares in the Bronx.

Yellow taxi pickups were higher here than in most of the Bronx through May 2026, peaking at 1,535 in December, but then fell to 349 in June and 248 in August. The records do not explain the drop. Bronx yellow pickups as a whole fell from 35,641 in May to 14,965 in June.

The median app trip runs 2.94 miles and 13.9 minutes, with a $15.77 fare and $13.72 median driver pay, a little above the Bronx middle ($13.50). App tips average 1.9% of the fare ($0.37). The Metropolitan Avenue relief stand
NYC DOT's relief-stand dataset (checked October 2026) lists one stand in zone 182: Metropolitan Avenue, north side, Purdy Street to Red Oak Drive, 2 spaces, taxi/FHV, 1 hour limit. DOT's sign records show the sign order completed in November 2024. A relief stand is for parking up to one hour, not for waiting for passengers (DOT), and you must obey the sign (80-19(d)(7), $50). A taxi-only stand on Bronx River Avenue, in West Farms, is about 0.3 miles from this zone's edge. Only taxis may use that one.
Pickup rules
Parkchester is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51): yellow and green cabs may take hails. App drivers need a base dispatch for every pickup (80-19(c)(1)). The 3.5% of app trips that paid the Congestion Relief Zone fee went into Manhattan at or below 60th Street.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a relief stand in Parkchester?
Yes. NYC DOT lists a 2-space taxi/FHV relief stand on the north side of Metropolitan Avenue between Purdy Street and Red Oak Drive, with a 1 hour limit. Uber and Lyft cars may use it because it is marked taxi/FHV. Always follow the posted sign.
When is Parkchester busiest?
Weekday mornings. 28.8% of weekday pickups start between 6 and 10 a.m., the second-highest share in the Bronx, and the 8 a.m. hour averages about 175 pickups. On Saturdays the peak is early afternoon (2 p.m.), and on Sundays it is 10 a.m.
Why does Parkchester have fewer drop-offs than pickups?
In the 12 months to August 2026, 697,931 trips started here but only 602,329 ended here. The trip records don't say why. One part of the pattern: weekday mornings have many more pickups than drop-offs.
Do yellow taxis work in Parkchester?
A little more than in most of the Bronx. Yellow taxis made 12,161 pickups here, 1.7% of the total, tied for the highest yellow share in the borough. But yellow pickups fell from over 1,200 a month in spring 2026 to 248 in August.
