In short: NYC has 110 relief stands with 547 parking spaces where a taxi or FHV driver can park and leave the car for up to one hour. 69 of them allow FHVs (Uber, Lyft and other app cars); 41 are for taxis only. There are none on Staten Island. Type a street, neighborhood or borough into the filter below to find the nearest one. Then check the sign on the street, because the sign is the rule.
This list comes from NYC DOT's own relief-stand dataset on NYC Open Data, last updated by DOT on October 1, 2026. We added the taxi zone for each stand so you can match it to the places you drive, or open the zone in the zone explorer.
Find a stand
Type in the filter box: a street ("Dyckman"), a borough ("Queens"), a zone ("Long Island City") or a type ("FHV"). Click a column heading to sort, for example by number of spaces.
How to read the columns:
- Location is the street the stand is on, the two cross streets that bound the block, and the side of the street (N, S, E or W).
- Type comes from DOT's
relief_stafield. "Taxi + FHV" stands are signed TAXI/FHV RELIEF STAND. "Taxi only" stands are signed TAXI RELIEF STAND. FHV drivers should use only the first kind. - Spaces is DOT's count of spaces on that stretch of curb.
- Hours on sign is the time window printed on the relief stand sign, taken from the sign text in the data. See the next section for what "No hours on sign" means.
What the hours mean
Every relief stand sign in the data says 1 HOUR LIMIT. TLC rule §80-19(d)(7) lets any driver take a vacant spot at a relief stand, but you "must comply with all posted restrictions including the type(s) of Vehicles that may occupy a position at the relief stand and the maximum time a Vehicle may park" there (TLC Chapter 80). Breaking a posted limit is a $50 fine.
We sorted the sign text into two groups:
- 83 stands show no hours. The sign has the 1-hour limit but no time window. That usually means the relief stand rule is not limited to certain hours, but other signs on the same block can still restrict parking, such as street cleaning.
- 27 stands show extra sign text, usually hours such as "7 AM-7 PM All days" or "Monday-Friday 8 AM-6 PM". Two instead show a No Parking rule with an exception for taxis (and FHVs on one). Outside those hours, the relief stand rule does not apply, and the other signs on the block decide what you can do.
DOT says that when more than one sign covers the same spot, "the more restrictive one is the one in effect" (NYC DOT Parking Regulations). So read every sign on the block, not just the relief stand sign.
Map: where the spaces are
The map shades each taxi zone by the number of relief stand spaces inside it. Zones with no shading have no relief stand in DOT's data. 53 of the 263 taxi zones have at least one stand. Sunnyside in Queens has the most spaces (54), then Clinton East (46) and Gramercy (38) in Manhattan.
The airport zones (JFK and LaGuardia) have no DOT relief stands. Airports have their own holding areas, and TLC rule §80-19(e)(2) says you must park in the taxi holding area before going on relief time at a terminal that has one. The airport trip helper covers airport waiting rules.
Before you leave the car
Report a missing or wrong sign
DOT says its relief-stand map "is updated monthly and may not be reflective of all current posted regulations" and asks drivers to report a missing or damaged sign to NYC 311 (NYC DOT). If a stand in this list has no sign on the street, don't park there because the list says so. A ticket is judged by what is posted at the curb, not by a dataset.
Related rules and pages
A relief stand is not a taxi stand. At a taxi stand, the first two drivers must stay in the driver's seat, and you can only stay up to one hour on relief time (taxi stand rules). The full background on relief stands, including the 2026 commercial-meter parking pilot law, is in our relief stand guide. FHV drivers should also read can Uber and Lyft drivers use relief stands. For a definition, see relief stand, and for the borough-by-borough picture, see relief stand statistics and the relief stand gap by borough. More places to work are on the places hub.
Frequently asked questions
Where does this list come from?
From NYC DOT's Taxi and For Hire Vehicle (FHV) Relief Stands dataset on NYC Open Data (vqu8-xef9), last updated by DOT on October 1, 2026. We downloaded it on October 12, 2026 and added the taxi zone for each stand.
Can Uber and Lyft drivers use every stand on the list?
No. 69 of the 110 stands are signed for taxis and FHVs. The other 41 are for taxis only. Use the Type column, and always read the sign itself before you leave the car.
What does 'No hours on sign' mean?
The relief stand sign in DOT's record shows the 1-hour limit but no time window. Other signs on the same block (street cleaning, No Standing hours) can still apply, and where two signs cover the same spot the more restrictive one is in effect.
Is there a relief stand on Staten Island?
Not in DOT's dataset. It lists stands in Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx and Brooklyn only.
What if the sign is missing or the stand isn't there?
Don't park there on the strength of the list. DOT says its map may not reflect all current posted regulations. Follow the signs on the street, and report a missing or damaged sign to NYC 311.
