West Concourse (TLC zone 247) is the second-busiest taxi zone in the Bronx, with 1,383,631 pickups in the 12 months to August 2026, about 3,791 a day. It behaves differently from its neighbors. Saturdays are busier than weekdays, July and August were the busiest months, and it has the most green cab pickups in the Bronx and the second-most yellow taxi pickups. Yankee Stadium is inside the zone, and DOT records several taxi stand signs here.

The pickups break down as 1,362,428 app trips, 19,506 yellow taxi trips and 1,697 green cab trips. They are TLC Help's totals of TLC trip records; rides from black car and livery bases outside the apps are not in those records.

'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. A summer zone, with seasonal green cabs

Most Bronx zones peaked in March 2026. West Concourse peaked in July 2026 (124,772 pickups) and August (124,574). The low was September 2025 (101,583).

Taxis held up here, too. Yellow pickups were 1,861 in May 2026 and still 1,645 in July and 1,701 in August, while yellow pickups across the Bronx fell by more than half that summer. Green cabs have a strong season: 188 to 283 pickups a month in April–October, against 41 to 51 a month from November to March. Highbridge next door shows the same pattern. The data has no event field, so it cannot prove why.

What the rules say about these stands:

  • Yellow taxis may take any open place at a taxi stand. The first two cars must stay in the driver's seat (80-19(d)(6)).
  • Green cabs may use stands in the Hail Zone, which covers all of the Bronx (80-19(d)(1)(i)), but must not cruise within 100 feet of one.
  • FHV and app drivers must not pick up at a taxi stand (80-19(d)(2): $350 first violation). See taxi stand rules.

DOT lists no relief stand inside zone 247. The taxi-only relief stands on Park Avenue at East 135th–138th Streets, in Mott Haven, are about 0.06 miles from the zone's edge.

Frequently asked questions

Is Yankee Stadium in the West Concourse taxi zone?

Yes. By our check against TLC's zone shapefile, Yankee Stadium falls inside zone 247, close to the Highbridge boundary. The trip records don't tag events, so they can't show which trips were stadium trips.

Are there taxi stands in West Concourse?

NYC DOT's current sign records show taxi stand signs on the east side of River Avenue between East 158th and East 161st Streets and between McClellan Street and East 167th Street, and on Jerome Avenue between Elliot Place and East 170th Street. There is also a 'Taxi/FHV pick-up/drop-off only, 8 a.m.–10 p.m. all days' sign on River Avenue between East 151st and East 153rd Streets.

Can an Uber or Lyft driver pick up at the River Avenue taxi stand?

No. TLC rule 80-19(d)(2) says a for-hire driver must not pick up passengers at any taxi stand. The first violation is $350. App drivers must still only take trips dispatched through their base.

When is West Concourse busiest?

Saturdays, especially 5 to 6 p.m. (about 265 pickups an hour). Saturdays average about 4,366 pickups, against about 3,720 on a weekday. Weekdays peak at 8 a.m., with a second high point at 10 p.m. By month, July and August 2026 were the busiest.
