Mount Hope (TLC zone 169) is a busy, local, app-driven zone in the west Bronx. From September 2025 to August 2026, 1,233,745 trips started here, about 3,380 a day. That ranks it 7th of the Bronx's 43 taxi zones. Uber and Lyft carried 99.1% of those pickups. Most rides are short hops to nearby Bronx neighborhoods, and the busiest time is the weekday morning.
Behind that total are 1,222,744 Uber/Lyft pickups, 10,634 yellow taxi pickups and just 367 green cab pickups, about one a day. TLC Help added these up from TLC trip records. Black car and livery trips booked outside the big apps are not in those files.
Mount Hope at a glance
On TLC's zone map, Mount Hope touches five other Bronx zones: Claremont/Bathgate (47), East Concourse/Concourse Village (69), Fordham South (94), University Heights/Morris Heights (235) and West Concourse (247). TLC's lookup table calls it a "Boro Zone". That is only a label in the trip data. It does not change any rule.
When rides start: a strong 8 a.m. peak
Weekday mornings are the clear high point. At 8 a.m. an average weekday has about 255 pickups, and 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. each have about 200. The hours from 6 to 10 a.m. hold 23.5% of all weekday pickups.
Weekends look different. On Saturdays there is no sharp peak. Pickups stay at about 210 an hour from 7 p.m. through 11 p.m. On Sundays the busiest single hour is midnight, with about 198 pickups, and 19.5% of Sunday pickups start between midnight and 5 a.m.
Month by month
The quietest month was September 2025 (86,865 pickups) and the busiest was March 2026 (115,766). Since then the zone has stayed between about 102,000 and 108,000 a month.
Yellow taxi pickups changed sharply. They were about 900 to 1,200 a month until May 2026, then fell to 431 in June and 389 in August. The same drop shows across the Bronx: yellow pickups in all Bronx zones fell from 35,641 in May to 14,965 in June. The trip records do not say why. App pickups did not fall.
Where trips go
Trips from Mount Hope stay close. The most common destination is Mount Hope itself (6.3% of pickups), then University Heights/Morris Heights (6.1%), East Tremont (5.0%) and East Concourse/Concourse Village (4.7%). Nine of the top ten destinations are Bronx zones. The tenth is "outside NYC" (TLC zone 265), at 3.2%. The trips that end here come from almost the same list of neighbors.
Fares and driver pay
Short trips mean modest fares. The median app trip from here is 2.39 miles and 13.7 minutes, with a median fare of $15.06. The median app driver pay is $13.01 per trip, before tips and tolls. That is below the middle Bronx zone ($13.50). Riders tip little: app tips average $0.22 a trip, 1.2% of the fare.
Yellow trips from Mount Hope are longer. The median is 5 miles and $26.07 on the meter. Only 0.8% of app pickups went to an airport. The green-cab figures rest on just 367 trips. Their $3.00 median fare equals the meter's starting charge, so treat them with care.
Pickup rules in Mount Hope
- Hail Zone. All of the Bronx is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51). Yellow taxis and green cabs may take street hails here. A green cab must not cruise for passengers within 100 feet of an authorized taxi stand (§80-19(b)(2)(ii)).
- App and other FHV drivers may only pick up trips dispatched through their base. A street pickup can bring a $200–$350 fine for a first violation.
- Congestion pricing. Mount Hope is far outside the MTA Congestion Relief Zone, which covers Manhattan at and below 60th Street. The 2.8% of app pickups that were charged the fee were trips that went into that zone.
- Stands. NYC DOT's relief-stand data (vqu8-xef9) and current parking-sign records (nfid-uabd), checked in October 2026, show no relief stand and no taxi-stand sign inside zone 169. The closest listed relief stands are two 3-space taxi/FHV stands in Belmont, on Crotona Avenue and on Webster Avenue, each about 0.6–0.7 miles in a straight line from the zone's edge. See relief stand rules.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
