Old taxicab owner rules (medallion owners)

Old Chapter 1 of the TLC rules covered owners of yellow medallion taxicabs: keeping the cab licensed, insured, inspected and in good condition, the taximeter and roof light, lease caps, and owner conduct. It was repealed on April 1, 2011, when the new TLC rule book took effect. Its rules moved mostly to Chapter 58 (Medallion Taxicab Service); the TLC's 2011 'Guide to New TLC Rules' maps old 1-xx sections to new 58-xx sections.

§1-26A2Old rule — replaced by 58-32(g)(2)92 charges

Raised-lettering ID plaque missing or wrong

Old owner rule 1-26(a)(2) described the raised-lettering plaque every taxicab needed: black acrylic, 11 by 5 inches, with one-inch white letters showing the medallion number, "COMPLAINTS" and "212 NYC TAXI," fixed to the back of the front passenger seat or partition. A charge means the plaque was missing or did not meet these specs. Today see §58-32(g)(2).

Unknown subsection, possibly a technology-system code

This code reads as 1-26(e)(i) of the old owner rules, but Section 1-26 (ID plaques) never had a subsection (e). All charges are from 2008–2009, when 1-11(e)(i) (technology system not working) was common, so it may be a mistyped version of that code. This cannot be confirmed; check the summons for the officer's description.

Unclear code – possibly the driver rule requiring a trip record in the cab

This code reads as 1-27(a)(1) of the old taxicab owner rules, but Section 1-27 is marked "Reserved" (empty) in both the 2004 and 2010 texts. Charges run 2000–2008. It may be a mistyped driver rule 2-27(a)(1), which required the trip record (trip sheet) to be in the cab. We cannot confirm the meaning; check the summons.

This code reads as 1-27(b) of the old owner rules, but Section 1-27 was "Reserved" (no text) in the 2004 and 2010 versions. The 2005–2010 dates suggest it may be a mistyped driver rule 2-27(b), which required the meter, license and rate card to be lit after sunset.
