Battery Park (TLC zone 12) is a drop-off zone. In the 12 months to August 2026 it had 62,991 drop-offs but only 40,165 pickups (about 110 a day). Riders arrive in the morning, most often from Times Square, and leave in the afternoon. It is also strongly seasonal: July 2026 had three times the pickups of February.
Zone 12 at a glance
TLC labels zone 12 "Yellow Zone" in its lookup table; that is a data label, not a legal line. The zone sits at the southern tip of Manhattan and touches Battery Park City, World Trade Center and Financial District South. The National Park Service says ferries to the Statue of Liberty depart from The Battery, at the southern tip of Manhattan. The city's street centerline map also puts the Battery Park Underpass and Hugh L. Carey Tunnel ramps in the zone.
When rides start and end here
This zone's pattern is unlike its neighbours. Drop-offs peak in the 8 a.m. hour every day of the week, weekend included; on weekdays, 41.8% of drop-offs arrive between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Pickups peak in the afternoon, around 4 p.m., on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays alike. Late nights are almost empty: only 2–5% of pickups happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
The numbers per hour are small (an average weekday has about 29 drop-offs in the 8 a.m. hour and 13 pickups at 4 p.m.), so expect some randomness.
A summer zone
Most Lower Manhattan zones were busiest in October 2025. Battery Park was busiest in July 2026 (5,223 pickups) and August (4,594), and quietest in February 2026 (1,711). The drop-off months follow the same shape. With one year of data, we can't say if every summer looks like this.
Where trips come from and go
Arrivals come mainly from Midtown's west side: Times Sq/Theatre District (14.1% of drop-offs), Clinton East (8.5%), Battery Park City (6.7%) and East Chelsea (5.6%). Trips leaving go back the same way: Times Sq/Theatre District is the top destination (7.0% of pickups), then Midtown Center (4.0%) and World Trade Center (3.9%). Only 2.4% of app pickups went to an airport.
Fares and driver pay
Trips from here are long: the median app trip was 4.77 miles and 21.8 minutes, with a $30.25 fare and $22.44 driver pay. App riders tipped $2.42 on average, 6.8% of the fare, above the 5.7% Manhattan Yellow Zone middle. Yellow cabs did 32.9% of pickups; the median yellow trip was 4.4 miles and $25.40 on the meter, with 20.7% card tips.

Stands and practical notes
Neither DOT list (relief stands or parking signs, checked 2026-10-12) has an entry inside zone 12. By our map check, the nearest relief stand in DOT's list is on Maiden Lane between Front Street and South Street, in Financial District North, open to taxis and FHVs. With about 110 pickups a day across the whole year, this zone has far fewer fares to start than its neighbours. Curb rules for quick drop-offs are in curb rules for pickups and drop-offs.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
