Bay Terrace/Fort Totten (TLC zone 15) is a small, low-volume zone on the northeast tip of Queens. About 534 rides a day start here, and almost all are app trips. What stands out is where they go: 18% of all pickups end in neighboring Bayside, more than twice the share that stays inside the zone. App trips from here pay and tip better than most of Queens.
The data is TLC's trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and high-volume app services (Uber and Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, added up by TLC Help. Non-app black car and livery trips are not counted.
Bay Terrace/Fort Totten at a glance
On TLC's zone map, zone 15 touches only three zones, all in Queens: Bayside (16), Murray Hill-Queens (171) and Whitestone (252). The lookup table labels it a "Boro Zone", a data label rather than a legal line (taxi zones explained).
When rides start and end
Pickups follow a morning pattern on weekdays: the top hour is 8 a.m. (about 42 pickups). Saturdays are the busiest days (about 603 pickups, against 535 on a weekday and 460 on a Sunday), with a 6 p.m. peak (about 41). Late nights are quiet: 5.8% of the week's pickups start between midnight and 5 a.m.
Drop-offs tell another story. On weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays alike, the busiest drop-off hour is 2 p.m. People arrive in the middle of the day and leave in the morning or evening.
Month by month
Monthly pickups grew slowly through the year, from 14,636 in September 2025 to a high of 17,092 in May 2026, and stayed near 16,700–16,900 through the summer. Yellow taxi pickups were never more than 195 a month and dropped to 61–83 a month from June 2026.
Where trips go
Bayside takes 18% of pickups. Then come trips inside the zone (7.4%), Whitestone (6.6%), Murray Hill-Queens and Flushing (5.8% each). 5.7% leave New York City. The airports get 5.8% of trips together (LaGuardia 3.2%, JFK 2.6%).
Fares, pay and tips
The median app trip is 4.6 miles and 14.5 minutes, with a $19.75 fare (8th in Queens) and $16.46 driver pay. Pay per engaged hour is $69.94, 9th of 67. Engaged time is only time with a rider, so these are not hourly earnings. App riders tipped 5.7% of the fare, an average of $1.49 a trip.
Yellow taxi trips from here are long: a median of 9.46 miles and a $35.50 metered fare. But there were only 1,699 of them in a year.

Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
