Glen Oaks (TLC zone 101) is where New York City trips most often leave the city. 33.4% of all pickups here end outside NYC, the highest share of any taxi zone in TLC's data. The zone is quiet (about 709 pickups a day), but app trips from here pay well per trip: a $18.45 median, 5th of 67 Queens zones outside the airports.
Numbers come from TLC trip records (yellow taxi, green cab and high-volume app trips) for September 2025 to August 2026, totaled by TLC Help.
Glen Oaks at a glance
On TLC's zone map, Glen Oaks touches only two city zones: Bellerose (19) and Douglaston (64). Its other side is the city line. TLC's lookup table labels it "Boro Zone", which is a data label, not a legal line.
Where trips go
A third of trips cross the city line. TLC records these as zone 265, "Outside of NYC", without saying where. Inside the city, trips stay local: 9.6% end in Glen Oaks, then Bellerose (5.2%), Queens Village (4.6%), Douglaston (3.2%) and JFK Airport (2.6%). Only 2.0% of app pickups paid the Manhattan congestion fee.
Trips start here more than they end here: 258,856 pickups against 188,380 drop-offs, about 1.37 pickups for every drop-off. No other Queens zone has a higher ratio. The trip data shows the gap but not the reason for it.
Fares, pay and leaving the city
Longer trips raise the pay. The median app trip is 5.15 miles in 15.6 minutes, with a $21.70 fare and $18.45 driver pay. Pay per engaged hour is $72.12 (4th in Queens). Engaged time is only the time with a passenger, so real hourly earnings are lower.
Yellow taxis made 2,907 pickups. Their median trip was 11.4 miles and $38.76 on the meter, far longer than in most of Queens.
Rules for trips out of the city, for taxis and green cabs:
- You must not refuse a passenger going to Nassau County, Westchester County or Newark Airport, unless you have a justifiable reason (80-20(a)(1)).
- For trips beyond the city line to Nassau or Westchester, the meter rate is double from the city limit to the destination (Rate #04). Other places outside NYC are a flat fare agreed before the trip. Source: TLC taxi fare page, as of October 12, 2026. More in out-of-city taxi fares.
When rides start
Weekdays peak at 8 a.m. (about 58 pickups), with a second, smaller high around 2 to 4 p.m. Weekends start later: both Saturday and Sunday peak at 4 p.m. Nights are quiet; 5.9% of weekday pickups happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
Monthly pickups ranged from 19,342 (September 2025) to 23,300 (December 2025). Yellow pickups ran 233 to 315 a month from September 2025 to May 2026, then fell to 116 to 148 a month in June to August 2026.
Pickup rules
Glen Oaks is in TLC's Hail Zone, so yellow and green cabs may take street hails. App drivers may only take trips dispatched by their base (80-19(c)(1)). DOT lists no relief stand in the zone; the closest one in its data is a taxi-only stand in Jackson Heights, more than 8 miles away, and the closest open to FHVs is in Woodside, almost 9 miles away.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
