Oakland Gardens (TLC zone 175) is a small, daytime zone in eastern Queens. About 585 trips a day start here, and Bayside is the top destination (15.3%). Trips are fairly long for Queens, so app trips pay well per trip: a $17.06 median, 7th of 67 Queens zones outside the airports. Late-night weekday pickups are rare.

The figures come from TLC trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and app trips (Uber, Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, totaled by TLC Help.

'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Medians/rates need ≥250 trips (else null). labels are LocationIDs as strings; zones[] has names, boroughs, service_zone (from taxi_zone_lookup.csv), suggested slugs and neighbouring zone ids (shared boundary, from taxi_zones.zip).

Where trips go

Bayside takes 15.3% of pickups and sends 15.1% of drop-offs, almost three times any other city zone. Next is outside NYC (10.4%), TLC's zone 265, then Oakland Gardens itself (5.5%), Douglaston and Flushing (3.8% each). JFK takes 3.2%, and 5.5% of app pickups go to an airport (19th in Queens).

Arrivals look different from departures in one way: no "outside NYC" row appears among the top origins. Trips ending here come from Bayside (15.1%), Oakland Gardens (5.5%), Queens Village (4.5%), Flushing (4.1%), Forest Hills (3.4%) and JFK (2.8%). Overall the zone is balanced, with 213,482 pickups and 214,909 drop-offs. By contrast, neighboring Bellerose and nearby Glen Oaks both have far more pickups than drop-offs.

If a passenger in a taxi or green cab asks for Nassau or Westchester, you may not refuse without a justifiable reason (80-20(a)(1)). See out-of-city taxi fares for how the meter works past the city line.
