Gravesend (TLC zone 108) is a small zone where riders leave early and head toward the beach zones. In the 12 months to August 2026, 399,543 trips started here, about 1,095 a day, and the busiest hours are 7 and 8 a.m. on weekdays. Coney Island is the top destination (10.8%), and only 6.1% of trips stay inside Gravesend.
The data is TLC trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and high-volume app services (Uber, Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, added up by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips outside the high-volume services are not included.
Gravesend at a glance
Zone 108 is a Brooklyn "Boro Zone" in TLC's zone lookup. The label only sorts data; it is not a legal boundary. On TLC's zone map it borders Bensonhurst East, Brighton Beach, Coney Island and Homecrest.
It ranks 51st of 61 Brooklyn zones by pickups. Pickups and drop-offs are nearly equal (398,659 drop-offs). Apps carried 98.7% of pickups.
When rides start and end
Weekdays (about 1,119 pickups) start fast: about 95 pickups at 7 a.m. and 104 at 8 a.m., then about 72 at 9 a.m. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. it runs at about 47–64 an hour. Drop-offs have two equal peaks, 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. (about 77 each).
Saturday (about 1,101) is flat from 8 a.m. to midnight, between about 50 and 64 an hour, with 6 p.m. on top. Sunday (about 964) is the quietest day, but its night is busy: the midnight hour has about 49 pickups, almost as many as the 10 a.m. peak (about 54). About 17% of Sunday pickups happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
Month by month
March 2026 was the busiest month (37,656 pickups), and every month from December to May topped 33,000. September 2025 was the quietest (27,723). Summer 2026 eased to about 30,500–32,600.
Yellow pickups were about 445 to 611 a month until May 2026, then 69–76 a month from June to August. App trips did not drop the same way, and the trip records do not explain it.
Where trips go
- Coney Island: 10.8%
- Sheepshead Bay: 8.9%
- Brighton Beach: 8.3%
- Homecrest: 8.2%
- Bensonhurst East: 8.1%
- Bensonhurst West: 6.6%
- Gravesend itself: 6.1%
Six zones each take 6–11% of trips; none dominates. Coney Island is also the top origin of trips ending here (11.0%), followed by Bensonhurst East (9.2%).
Fares, trip length and driver pay
App trips are short and quick: a median of 2.17 miles and 11.5 minutes, a $13.49 fare and $10.87 driver pay before tips and tolls (56th in Brooklyn). Because they are quick, pay per engaged hour is $62.62, 10th in Brooklyn. That measure leaves out time spent reaching pickups and waiting, so real hourly pay is lower. Tips are 3.1% of fares, $0.62 on average.
Yellow taxi trips are a different market: a median of 7.9 miles, 39.9 minutes and $34.50. Card tips on yellow trips here are only 0.1% of fares; cash tips are not in the data. Few app trips leave the area: 1.4% go to an airport and 2.6% are charged the Manhattan toll-zone fee.
Pickup rules and curb signs
Gravesend is in TLC's Hail Zone: yellow and green cabs may accept street hails. App drivers may only pick up riders dispatched through their base (80-19(c)(1)). For trips into Manhattan at or below 60th Street, the rider pays $1.50 per app trip or $0.75 per taxi trip as of 2026-10-12 (MTA). See who can pick up where. This is general information, not legal advice.
DOT lists no relief stand and no taxi stand in zone 108 (checked October 12, 2026; vqu8-xef9). Its sign data (nfid-uabd) does show a "TAXI/FHV 8AM-10PM ALL DAYS PICK-UP/DROP-OFF ONLY" sign on the east side of Ocean Parkway between the Shore Parkway service roads, where the Belt Parkway crosses. DOT's record has no map point, and that spot is where Gravesend, Brighton Beach and Coney Island meet on TLC's zone map. Unlike a taxi stand, this sign names both taxis and FHVs, for pick-up and drop-off only.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
