Sheepshead Bay (TLC zone 210) is a local-trip zone with an unusual green cab market and a signed taxi stand. In the 12 months to August 2026, 877,163 trips started here, about 2,403 a day. Apps carried 98.7%, but green cabs made 1,833 pickups, 9th-most in Brooklyn, mostly short hops. 18.4% of all trips stay inside the zone.
Trip numbers are from TLC trip records (yellow, green and high-volume app trips such as Uber and Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, added up by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips that are not high-volume are left out.
Sheepshead Bay at a glance
Zone 210 is a Brooklyn "Boro Zone" in TLC's zone lookup. That is a data category, not a legal boundary. Its five neighbors on TLC's zone map are Brighton Beach, Homecrest, Madison, Manhattan Beach and Marine Park/Floyd Bennett Field.
It ranks 32nd of 61 Brooklyn zones by pickups, and pickups and drop-offs are close (869,045 drop-offs).
When rides start
Weekdays average about 2,482 pickups. The 8 a.m. hour is the peak (about 202), with 7 a.m. (about 170) and 9 a.m. (about 165) close. There is a second rise at 5 p.m. (about 160).
Saturday (about 2,388) grows through the day to 6 and 7 p.m. (about 149 each). Sunday (about 2,022) is steady from noon to 6 p.m., about 109–115 an hour, with 3 p.m. on top.
Month by month
February 2026 was the top month (79,340 pickups), with December to March all near 78,000–79,000. September 2025 was the low (62,016). Summer held up: June to August 2026 stayed near 72,000 a month.
Green cab pickups were steady all year at about 120–190 a month, including summer. Yellow pickups were not: about 830 to 1,090 a month until May 2026, then 177–190 from June to August. The trip records do not explain the yellow drop.

Fares, trip length and driver pay
The median app trip is 2.07 miles and 11.3 minutes, with a $13.44 fare and $10.69 driver pay before tips and tolls, 58th of 61 in Brooklyn. Pay per engaged hour is $61.31 (tied with Dyker Heights for 18th), because trips are short; it counts passenger time only, so it is above what drivers really earn per hour. App tips are 3.5% of fares, $0.66 on average.
Green cab trips are even shorter: a median of 1.15 miles, 7.3 minutes and $8.60. On card-paid green trips, tips equal 20.3% of the fare (cash tips are not recorded). Yellow trips go far: a median 6.5 miles, 35.4 minutes and $29.50, but card tips on them are only 0.1% of fares.
Few trips leave the area: 1.5% of app pickups went to an airport and 1.9% were charged the Manhattan toll-zone fee.
The Sheepshead Bay Road taxi stand and pickup rules
DOT's sign data shows a TAXI STAND sign on the west side of Sheepshead Bay Road between East 14th Street and Voorhies Avenue (nfid-uabd, checked October 12, 2026). DOT lists no relief stand in the zone (vqu8-xef9). Under TLC Chapter 80:
- Yellow taxis may take any open place at a taxi stand. Green cabs may too, because the stand is in the Hail Zone (80-19(d)(1)).
- Taxi drivers must not cruise for hails within 100 feet of the stand (80-19(a)(4)(ii)). Green cab drivers have the same 100-foot rule (80-19(b)(2)(ii)).
- Take the rear position in line (80-19(d)(4)).
- App and other for-hire drivers must not pick up at a taxi stand (80-19(d)(2)).
Sheepshead Bay is in TLC's Hail Zone: yellow and green cabs may take street hails, and app drivers need a base dispatch for every pickup. Riders going into Manhattan at or below 60th Street pay $1.50 per app trip or $0.75 per taxi trip as of 2026-10-12 (MTA). See who can pick up where. This is general information, not legal advice.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
