Bensonhurst East (TLC zone 21) is a crossroads for south Brooklyn trips. In the 12 months to August 2026, 718,688 trips started here, about 1,969 a day. More of them went to Bensonhurst West (11.7%) than stayed inside the zone (10.4%), and the rest spread toward Homecrest, Coney Island, Gravesend and the beach zones. Weekday mornings are the busiest pickup time; weekend nights bring riders home.
Figures are from TLC trip records (yellow taxis, green cabs and high-volume app services such as Uber and Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, added up by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips that are not high-volume are not counted.
Bensonhurst East at a glance
Zone 21 appears in TLC's zone lookup as a Brooklyn "Boro Zone". That label is for data, not a legal boundary. Its five neighbors on TLC's zone map are Bensonhurst West, Borough Park, Gravesend, Homecrest and Ocean Parkway South.
It ranks 40th of 61 Brooklyn zones by pickups. Slightly more trips start here than end here (705,100 drop-offs). Apps carried 99.2% of pickups.
When rides start and end

Taxi stands and pickup rules
DOT's sign data (checked October 12, 2026; nfid-uabd) shows two signed taxi stands at this zone's edges, and DOT lists no relief stand here (vqu8-xef9):
- Bay Parkway between West 7th and West 8th Streets, east side. DOT gives no map point; that block lies on the line with Bensonhurst West.
- Avenue P between East 2nd Street and McDonald Avenue, north side, about 100 feet over the line in Ocean Parkway South.
At a taxi stand, yellow taxis and green cabs may take any open position (80-19(d)(1)). App drivers must not pick up there; the first fine is $350 (80-19(d)(2)). Taxi drivers must not cruise for hails within 100 feet of a stand (80-19(a)(4)(ii)) (Chapter 80).
The zone is in TLC's Hail Zone: yellow and green cabs may take hails, and app drivers need a base dispatch for every pickup. On trips into Manhattan at or below 60th Street, riders pay $1.50 per app trip or $0.75 per taxi trip as of 2026-10-12 (MTA). See who can pick up where. This is general information, not legal advice.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
