Ocean Parkway South (TLC zone 178) is a small zone whose riders mostly cross into the zones beside it. In the 12 months to August 2026, 266,909 trips started here, about 731 a day, and more of them ended in Homecrest (15.3%) than inside the zone (5.6%). Trips are short, Saturdays are very quiet, and winter months are far busier than summer.

These are TLC trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and high-volume app services (Uber, Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, added up by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips outside the high-volume services are not included.

Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Ocean Parkway South at a glance

TLC's zone lookup calls zone 178 a Brooklyn "Boro Zone", a label for data, not a legal line. Its five neighbors on TLC's zone map are Bensonhurst East, Borough Park, Flatbush/Ditmas Park, Homecrest and Midwood.

Apps carried 99.0% of pickups. Yellow taxis had 2,641 pickups but more than twice as many drop-offs (5,702). Green cabs had 38 pickups, so every green monthly count is too small to publish.

Month by month

The seasonal swing is one of the widest in Brooklyn. February 2026 was the top month (28,884 pickups), and December to March all passed 26,000. July 2026 was the low (15,851), a little over half of February's count. Peak to low, only two Brooklyn zones swing more.

Yellow pickups were about 190 to 345 a month through May 2026, then 45–64 a month from June to August. The trip records do not explain that drop.

The Avenue P taxi stand and pickup rules

DOT's sign data shows a TAXI STAND sign on the north side of Avenue P between East 2nd Street and McDonald Avenue (nfid-uabd, checked October 12, 2026). By TLC's zone map it sits right on the edge of zone 178, next to Homecrest. DOT lists no relief stand here (vqu8-xef9).

At a taxi stand, yellow taxis, and green cabs in the Hail Zone, may take any open spot (80-19(d)(1)). App and other for-hire drivers must not pick up there (80-19(d)(2)). Taxi drivers must not cruise for hails within 100 feet of it (80-19(a)(4)(ii)) (Chapter 80).

The whole zone is in TLC's Hail Zone: yellow and green cabs can take street hails, while app drivers need a base dispatch for every rider. On trips into Manhattan at or below 60th Street, riders pay $1.50 per app trip or $0.75 per taxi trip as of 2026-10-12 (MTA). See who can pick up where.
