Saint George/New Brighton (taxi zone 206) is the busiest zone on Staten Island: about 1,534 pickups a day, almost all of them Uber and Lyft trips. The trips are short and local. A third end inside the same zone, and the median app trip pays the driver $10.80 before tips. The zone also has the island's only signed taxi stand, at the St. George ferry terminal, and the OATH Staten Island hearing office.
Trip numbers below come from TLC trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and high-volume app services (Uber, Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, counted by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips that don't go through an app company are not in this data.
Zone 206 at a glance
On TLC's zone map, zone 206 borders Port Richmond (187), Westerleigh (251), West Brighton (245) and Stapleton (221). TLC labels it "Boro Zone". That label is a category in TLC's data, not a legal line; the taxi zones guide explains the labels.
Saturday is the biggest day
Weekdays have the sharpest peak: about 123 pickups in the 8 a.m. hour and about 140 drop-offs in the same hour. But an average Saturday has more pickups (about 1,656) than a weekday (about 1,553). On Saturdays the zone stays at roughly 90–95 pickups an hour from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays are quieter, at about 1,318 pickups.
Month by month
App pickups were lowest in September 2025 (39,890) and highest in March 2026 (51,383). Summer 2026 stayed between about 47,000 and 49,000 a month. Yellow taxis made only 195 pickups all year. Green cabs picked up 35, about half of the 71 green cab pickups on all of Staten Island.
Where trips go
33.1% of pickups end inside zone 206 itself. Next come Stapleton (11.4%), West Brighton (9.5%), Grymes Hill/Clifton (6.1%) and Bloomfield/Emerson Hill (6.0%). All ten top destinations are Staten Island zones, and together they take 85.9% of pickups. Just 1.0% of app pickups went to an airport and 1.2% were charged the Congestion Relief Zone fee, so app trips from here into Manhattan's core are rare. (The trip data does not count ferry riders.)
Fares and pay: short trips, low pay per trip
The median app trip from here is 2.38 miles, 10.7 minutes, a $13.46 fare and $10.80 driver pay. Only Stapleton is lower on the island. The city-wide median app fare is $19.69. Pay per engaged hour ($64.94) is the lowest on Staten Island. Engaged hours count only time with a rider, so this is not what you earn per hour. Riders tipped 3.5% of the fare, $0.67 a trip on average.
The ferry terminal taxi stand and other rules
- Taxi stand. DOT's sign records (checked October 12, 2026) list five TAXI STAND signs at the ferry terminal, Ramp F (order completed March 6, 2025). The Staten Island Ferry runs between Whitehall and St. George. Taxi stand rules also cover stands at ship terminals, and green cabs may use them when the terminal is in the Hail Zone (80-19(e)(1)).
- App drivers. An FHV driver must not pick up at any taxi stand: $350 for a first violation (80-19(d)(2)). Away from the stand, you may still only take trips dispatched by your base (80-19(c)(1)).
- Green cabs and yellow taxis may take street hails here: all of Staten Island is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51). See who can pick up where and the taxi stand rules.
- Breaks. DOT's relief-stand list has no relief stands anywhere on Staten Island (vqu8-xef9, checked October 12, 2026).
- OATH office. OATH lists 350 St. Marks Place, Main Floor, as its Staten Island office. That address is inside zone 206. More in the Staten Island guide.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
