Starrett City (TLC zone 222) is a small, self-contained zone at Brooklyn's eastern edge. From September 2025 to August 2026, 340,515 trips started here (about 933 a day), 53rd of 61 Brooklyn zones. One trip in four goes to East New York. The weekly pattern is flat: weekends are hardly busier than weekdays. Its yellow taxi share (3.1%) is one of the highest in Brooklyn, but yellow pickups almost vanished from the data after May 2026.
The data is TLC trip records for yellow, green and high-volume app (Uber, Lyft) trips, aggregated by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips not dispatched by an app are not included.
Starrett City at a glance
Zone 222 is a "Boro Zone" in TLC's lookup table. That is a data label, not a legal line. On TLC's zone map it has only two land neighbors: Canarsie and East New York.
Apps made 329,402 pickups (96.7%), yellow cabs 10,584 and green cabs 529. Slightly more trips start here (340,515) than end here (324,074).
When rides start
On weekdays, demand is a morning event. The 8 a.m. hour averages about 78 pickups and 7 a.m. about 72, compared with about 35 to 52 an hour from noon to 8 p.m.
Weekends are not much bigger. A Saturday averages about 982 pickups and a Sunday about 855, against about 939 on a weekday. Saturday is busiest in the afternoon (about 65 at 3 p.m.). Sunday has a sharp spike at noon, about 74 pickups against 47 at 11 a.m. and 54 at 1 p.m.
Month by month: the yellow break
App pickups were steady, between about 23,000 and 30,000 a month, peaking in March 2026 (30,148).
Yellow pickups tell a different story. They ran at about 1,000 to 1,300 a month through May 2026, roughly 4% of the zone's pickups. Then they fell to 162 in June, 155 in July and 127 in August. That is one of the steepest June drops in Brooklyn; only Gravesend's was steeper, and several south Brooklyn zones, such as Coney Island, fell by more than 80%. Yellow drop-offs here fell too, from 1,474 in May to 412 in June. The records do not explain the change, and app trips did not fall at the same time. TLC added a new column to yellow trip files in mid-2026, so recording changes are one possibility; treat recent yellow figures as uncertain.
Where trips go
With only two neighbors, most trips head through them:
- East New York: 26.3%
- Canarsie: 10.4%
- East New York/Pennsylvania Avenue: 8.2%
- Brownsville: 4.4%
- Starrett City itself: 4.3%
- Ocean Hill: 3.3%
- JFK Airport: 2.6%
East New York is also the top origin of trips that end here (24.7% of drop-offs).
Fares, trip length and driver pay
The median app trip is 2.54 miles and 13.4 minutes, with a $15.24 fare. The median driver pay is $12.89 before tips and tolls. Tips equal 1.6% of fares ($0.32 on average). 3.0% of app pickups go to an airport; only 1.4% go into the Manhattan congestion zone.
Yellow trips from here are much longer: a median of 6.9 miles and 38.6 minutes, with $30.50 on the meter. Recorded card tips on those trips are 0.1% of fares; cash tips are not in the data.
Pickup rules here
Zone 222 is in TLC's Hail Zone. Yellow and green cabs may take hails. App and other for-hire drivers may only take riders dispatched by their base (80-19(c)(1), Chapter 80). On a yellow trip from here to JFK, the fare is metered; under TLC's fare rules (as of 2026-10-12), the $70 flat fare is only for trips between Manhattan and JFK. See who can pick up where and the JFK page. This is general information, not legal advice.
Stands: DOT's open data lists no relief stand, taxi stand or taxi/FHV pickup zone in zone 222 (checked October 12, 2026).

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
