Flatlands (TLC zone 91) sends out more riders than it takes in. In the 12 months to August 2026, 1,289,076 trips started here, about 3,532 a day, against 1,210,676 drop-offs. The busiest hour is 8 a.m. on weekdays, and trips go east and west across Brooklyn rather than to Manhattan.

Flatlands at a glance
TLC's zone lookup lists zone 91 as a Brooklyn "Boro Zone". That is a data label, not a legal boundary. Its seven neighbors on TLC's zone map are Canarsie, East Flatbush/Farragut, East Flatbush/Remsen Village, Flatbush/Ditmas Park, Madison, Marine Park/Mill Basin and Midwood.
Apps carried 98.2% of pickups. Yellow taxis had 23,065 pickups (1.8%), 24th in Brooklyn, and green cabs 779, 22nd.
When rides start and end
On weekdays the morning is clearly the main event. The 8 a.m. hour averages about 285 pickups, 7 a.m. about 249 and 9 a.m. about 229. The evening is lower, topping out near 194 at 5 p.m.
Drop-offs follow the opposite curve: on weekdays they peak from 3 to 6 p.m., highest at 5 p.m. (about 226). Riders leave in the morning and come back in the afternoon.
Saturday is the biggest day, with about 3,661 pickups, steady from early afternoon to 7 p.m. Sunday (about 3,430) peaks at 10 a.m. (about 221). On Sundays, 14.5% of pickups happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
Month by month
Flatlands is steadier than most of Brooklyn. Every month from October 2025 to August 2026 had between about 100,600 and 116,700 pickups. March 2026 was the high (116,670) and September 2025 the low (94,460).
Yellow pickups held at roughly 1,900 to 2,750 a month until May 2026, then fell to 568–720 a month in June to August. App trips did not drop with them, and the records give no reason, so treat that change with care.
Where trips go
No single zone dominates. The top four take about 40% of pickups:
- Flatlands itself: 11.8%
- Flatbush/Ditmas Park: 11.3%
- Canarsie: 10.1%
- Marine Park/Mill Basin: 7.1%
- East Flatbush/Farragut: 5.2%
- East Flatbush/Remsen Village: 4.6%

Fares, trip length and driver pay
The median app trip is 2.36 miles and 13.5 minutes, with a $15.19 fare and $12.40 driver pay before tips and tolls, 42nd of 61 in Brooklyn. Tips are low: 2.1% of the fare, $0.42 on average, 51st in Brooklyn.
Long trips are not common. 2.1% of app pickups went to an airport and 2.0% were charged the Manhattan toll-zone fee; the Brooklyn zone medians are 2.6% and 5.9%. Yellow trips run longer, with a $25.50 median fare over 4.5 miles.
The green cab line in the table shows a $3 median fare over a 3.41-mile median trip. That does not match the metered rate, so treat green fare figures for this zone with caution.
Pickup rules and stands
Flatlands is in TLC's Hail Zone. Yellow and green cabs may accept street hails here; app drivers may only pick up riders dispatched through their base (80-19(c)(1)). If a trip goes into Manhattan at or below 60th Street, the rider pays a Congestion Relief Zone charge: $1.50 per app trip, $0.75 per taxi trip, as of 2026-10-12 (MTA). See who can pick up where. This is general information, not legal advice.
DOT's open data has no relief stand and no taxi-stand sign in zone 91 (checked October 12, 2026; vqu8-xef9, nfid-uabd). The nearest signed taxi stands are about three-quarters of a mile away: on Utica Avenue between Linden Boulevard and Church Avenue (East Flatbush/Remsen Village) and on East 16th Street near Kings Highway (Madison). Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
