Kensington (TLC zone 133) is a commuter zone. Rides start early on weekdays and come back late at night. In the 12 months to August 2026, 492,630 trips started here, about 1,350 a day, and 98% of them were app trips. The busiest hour of the whole week is 8 a.m. on weekdays, and a slightly larger share of riders head into Manhattan's toll zone than in the typical Brooklyn zone.
These numbers are TLC trip records for yellow taxis, green cabs and high-volume app services (Uber, Lyft), September 2025 to August 2026, added up by TLC Help. Black car and livery trips that are not high-volume are not in them.
Kensington at a glance
TLC's zone lookup files zone 133 as a Brooklyn "Boro Zone". That label is only a data category; it is not a legal line. On TLC's zone map, Kensington touches four zones: Borough Park, Flatbush/Ditmas Park, Green-Wood Cemetery and Windsor Terrace.
It ranks 48th of 61 Brooklyn zones by pickups. Slightly more trips end here (506,322) than start here. Yellow taxis show this most: 17,244 yellow drop-offs against 9,801 yellow pickups.
When rides start and end
Weekday pickups climb fast from 6 a.m. The 7, 8 and 9 a.m. hours average about 92, 114 and 94 pickups. Counting 6 to 10 a.m., the morning holds about 26% of a weekday's pickups, the 5th-highest share in Brooklyn. Evenings are flatter, topping out near 74 at 6 p.m.
The three day types are almost the same size: about 1,349 pickups on a weekday, 1,383 on a Saturday and 1,323 on a Sunday. Saturday is strongest from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday is busiest from late morning to early afternoon.
Drop-offs run the other way. On weekdays they peak at 9 and 10 p.m. (about 89 an hour), and the Sunday peak is the midnight hour (about 92). If you finish a late trip here, you are in a zone where many people arrive but fewer leave at that hour.
Month by month
December 2025 was the busiest month (46,733 pickups) and September 2025 the quietest (35,817). Winter and early spring stayed high, then numbers eased from April.
Yellow pickups ran at about 670 to 1,170 a month until May 2026, then dropped to 461–542 a month from June to August. App trips show no matching drop. TLC added a new field to yellow trip files around then, and the records do not explain the change, so don't read too much into it.
Where trips go
Kensington riders mostly go next door, and the same zones send riders back:
- Borough Park: 11.2% of pickups
- Flatbush/Ditmas Park: 9.9%
- Park Slope: 6.2%
- Kensington itself: 5.6%
- Sunset Park West: 4.2%
- Midwood: 3.6%
The origins list for drop-offs is almost the same, led by Borough Park (10.9%) and Flatbush/Ditmas Park (9.8%).
Fares, trip length and driver pay
A typical app trip from here is 2.66 miles and 14.9 minutes, with a $16.35 fare and $13.85 driver pay before tips and tolls. Both are close to the Brooklyn middle. Tips are better than average: 4.8% of the fare (17th in Brooklyn), about $1.05 a trip.
Yellow taxi trips are much longer: a median of 6.14 miles and $30.06. One in four yellow pickups (25.4%) was charged the Congestion Relief Zone fee, which means the trip entered Manhattan at or below 60th Street. Green cabs had only 146 pickups, too few for medians.
Pickup rules and stands
Kensington is in TLC's Hail Zone, so yellow and green cabs may take street hails here. App drivers may pick up only riders dispatched through their base (80-19(c)(1)). On trips into the Congestion Relief Zone, the rider pays $1.50 per app trip or $0.75 per taxi trip, as of 2026-10-12 (MTA). See who can pick up where. This is general information, not legal advice.
DOT's open data lists no relief stand and no taxi-stand sign inside zone 133 (checked October 12, 2026; vqu8-xef9, nfid-uabd). The closest signed taxi stand is on Tilden Avenue between Flatbush and Bedford Avenues, in the Erasmus zone, posted "9PM-MIDNIGHT ALL DAYS". App drivers may not pick up at any taxi stand (80-19(d)(2)). For places to take a break, see taxi relief stands.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
