Oakwood (taxi zone 176) is a small zone with good fares. It has only about 249 pickups a day, 16th of Staten Island's 20 zones. But the median app fare from here is $18.58, 2nd of the island's 19 zones with more than 1,000 pickups. The catch is time: the median trip takes 14.4 minutes, so pay per hour with a rider is only middle of the pack.

All numbers on this page come from TLC trip records for September 2025 to August 2026, counted by TLC Help. They cover yellow taxis, green cabs and high-volume app services (Uber and Lyft). Car service trips that don't go through an app company are not in the data.

Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Zone 176 at a glance

A weekday-morning zone

The busiest hour of the week is 8 a.m. on weekdays, with about 21 pickups. The 7 a.m. hour is almost as busy (about 20). After that, weekday pickups settle at 13–17 an hour until early evening. A Sunday is about a quarter smaller (about 191).

Good fare, slow trip

The median app trip from Oakwood is 3.46 miles in 14.4 minutes, with an $18.58 fare and $14.82 driver pay before tips. Only Heartland Village/Todt Hill (14.6) and South Beach/Dongan Hills (14.5) have longer median trips among the island's 19 busier zones. That is why the per-trip pay is high but pay per engaged hour is $67.12, 13th of 19. Engaged hours count only time with a rider. They leave out the drive to the pickup and the wait, so real hourly earnings are lower. Riders tipped 5.6% of the fare, $1.45 a trip on average.

3.0% of app pickups here were charged the Congestion Relief Zone fee, tied with Heartland Village/Todt Hill for 2nd of 19 Staten Island zones. For app trips the MTA charge is $1.50 per trip, paid by the passenger (rates as of October 12, 2026; MTA).
